1. A surface cleaning apparatus comprising(a) a body housing a suction motor;
- (b) a cyclone bin assembly comprising at least one cyclone having a cyclone chamber having a bottom and a cyclone air outlet;
(c) an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet and including the suction motor and the cyclone bin assembly;
(d) a pre-motor filter housing having an upstream air plenum, a downstream air plenum and a pre-motor filter positioned between the upstream air plenum and the downstream air plenum, the pre-motor filter having an outer perimeter and positioned in the air flow path between the at least one cyclone and the suction motor, wherein the pre-motor filter consists of at least one physical filter media;
(e) the upstream air plenum is positioned immediately upstream of the pre-motor filter wherein the upstream air plenum comprises an upstream air plenum end wall spaced from the pre-motor filter and comprising a first upstream air plenum end wall portion having an air flow port in flow communication with the cyclone air outlet and a second upstream air plenum end wall portion proximate the outer perimeter of the pre-motor filter, wherein the cyclone air outlet comprises a cyclone air outlet portion that is flared outwardly in an air flow direction therethrough and wherein the cyclone air outlet portion defines a portion of the cyclone chamber and a portion of the upstream air plenum; and
,(f) an air flow conduit connected to the air flow port, wherein the downstream air plenum comprises a downstream air plenum end wall spaced from the pre-motor filter and comprising a first downstream air plenum end wall portion having an air flow port and a second downstream air plenum end wall portion proximate the outer perimeter of the pre-motor filter, the air flow port of the first downstream air plenum end wall portion comprises an air outlet port that is aligned with a suction motor inlet.

A surface cleaning apparatus is provided wherein at least one of an upstream air plenum that is positioned upstream of the pre-motor filter, and a downstream air plenum that is positioned downstream of the pre-motor filter comprises an end wall spaced from the pre-motor filter and comprises a first portion having an air flow port and a second portion proximate the outer perimeter of the pre-motor filter, wherein the first portion and the second portion meet at a first juncture that extends at an angle to the first portion and the second portion.

1. A surface cleaning apparatus comprising
(a) a body housing a suction motor; -
(b) a cyclone bin assembly comprising at least one cyclone having a cyclone chamber having a bottom and a cyclone air outlet; (c) an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet and including the suction motor and the cyclone bin assembly; (d) a pre-motor filter housing having an upstream air plenum, a downstream air plenum and a pre-motor filter positioned between the upstream air plenum and the downstream air plenum, the pre-motor filter having an outer perimeter and positioned in the air flow path between the at least one cyclone and the suction motor, wherein the pre-motor filter consists of at least one physical filter media; (e) the upstream air plenum is positioned immediately upstream of the pre-motor filter wherein the upstream air plenum comprises an upstream air plenum end wall spaced from the pre-motor filter and comprising a first upstream air plenum end wall portion having an air flow port in flow communication with the cyclone air outlet and a second upstream air plenum end wall portion proximate the outer perimeter of the pre-motor filter, wherein the cyclone air outlet comprises a cyclone air outlet portion that is flared outwardly in an air flow direction therethrough and wherein the cyclone air outlet portion defines a portion of the cyclone chamber and a portion of the upstream air plenum; and
,(f) an air flow conduit connected to the air flow port, wherein the downstream air plenum comprises a downstream air plenum end wall spaced from the pre-motor filter and comprising a first downstream air plenum end wall portion having an air flow port and a second downstream air plenum end wall portion proximate the outer perimeter of the pre-motor filter, the air flow port of the first downstream air plenum end wall portion comprises an air outlet port that is aligned with a suction motor inlet. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10)

11. A surface cleaning apparatus comprising
(a) a body housing a suction motor; -
(b) a cyclone bin assembly comprising at least one cyclone having a cyclone chamber wherein an air outlet of the at least one cyclone is flared outwardly in an air flow direction therethrough; (c) an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet and including the suction motor and a cyclone bin assembly; (d) a pre-motor filter housing having an upstream air plenum, a downstream air plenum and a pre-motor filter positioned between the upstream air plenum and the downstream air plenum, the pre-motor filter having an outer perimeter and positioned in the air flow path between the at least one cyclone and the suction motor wherein the pre-motor filter consist of at least one physical filter media; (e) the downstream air plenum is positioned downstream of the pre-motor filter wherein the downstream air plenum comprises a downstream air plenum end wall spaced from the pre-motor filter and comprising a first downstream air plenum end wall portion having an air flow port and a second downstream air plenum end wall portion proximate the outer perimeter of the pre-motor filter, the air flow port comprises an air outlet conduit that is aligned with a suction motor inlet and the air flow conduit comprises a suction motor inlet; and
,(f) the upstream air plenum comprises an upstream air plenum end wall spaced from the pre-motor filter, the upstream air plenum end wall comprises a portion of the air outlet of the at least one cyclone that is flared outwardly, wherein a volume between the air outlet of the at least one cyclone and the pre-motor filter is an uninterrupted contiguous space. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19)
