Abstract

The invention comprises a composition comprising hyaloclastite having a volume-based mean particle size of less than or equal to 40 μm. The invention also comprises a cementitious material comprising a hydraulic cement and hyaloclastite, wherein the hyaloclastite has a volume-based mean particle size of less than or equal to approximately 40 μm. The invention further comprises a cementitious-based material comprising aggregate, a cementitious material comprising a hydraulic cement and hyaloclastite, wherein the hyaloclastite has a volume-based mean particle size of less than or equal to approximately 40 μm and water sufficient to hydrate the cementitious material. A method of using the composition of the present invention is also disclosed.

Claims

1. A cementitious material comprising a hydraulic cement and hyaloclastite, wherein the hyaloclastite has a volume-based mean particle size of less than or equal to approximately 40 μ

m.

2. The cementitious material of claim 1, wherein the hyaloclastite has a volume-based mean particle size of less than or equal to approximately 20 μ

m.

3. The cementitious material of claim 1, wherein the hyaloclastite has a volume-based mean particle size of less than or equal to approximately 10 μ

m.

4. The cementitious material of claim 1, wherein the hyaloclastite has a volume-based mean particle size of less than or equal to approximately 5 μ

m.

5. The cementitious material of claim 1, wherein the hydraulic cement comprises portland cement.

6. The cementitious material of claim 2, wherein the hydraulic cement comprises portland cement.

7. The cementitious material of claim 3, wherein the hydraulic cement comprises portland cement.

8. The cementitious material of claim 4, wherein the hydraulic cement comprises portland cement.

9. A cementitious-based material comprising:

aggregate;

a cementitious material comprising a hydraulic cement and hyaloclastite, wherein the hyaloclastite has a volume-based mean particle size of less than or equal to approximately 40 μ

m; and

water sufficient to hydrate the cementitious material.

10. The cementitious-based material of claim 9, wherein the hyaloclastite has a volume-based mean particle size of less than or equal to approximately 20 μ

m.

11. The cementitious-based material of claim 9, wherein the hyaloclastite has a volume-based mean particle size of less than or equal to approximately 10 μ

m.

12. The cementitious-based material of claim 9, wherein the hyaloclastite has a volume volume-based mean size of less than or equal to approximately 5 μ

m.

13. The cementitious-based material of claim 9, wherein the hydraulic cement comprises portland cement.

14. The cementitious-based material of claim 10, wherein the hydraulic cement comprises portland cement.

15. The cementitious-based material of claim 11, wherein the hydraulic cement comprises portland cement.

16. The cementitious-based material of claim 12, wherein the hydraulic cement comprises portland cement.

17. The cementitious-based material of claim 9, wherein the cementitious material comprises approximately 50% to approximately 99% by weight portland cement and approximately 1% to approximately 50% by weight hyaloclastite.

18. The cementitious-based material of claim 11, wherein the cementitious material comprises approximately 50% to approximately 99% by weight portland cement and approximately 1% to approximately 50% by weight hyaloclastite.

19. A cementitious material comprising portland cement and hyaloclastite, wherein the hyaloclastite has a volume-based mean particle size of less than or equal to approximately 10 μ

m and wherein the cementitious material comprises approximately 50% to approximately 99% by weight portland cement and approximately 1% to approximately 50% by weight hyaloclastite.
