First Claim
1. An apparatus comprising a backplane configured to receive electrical components, the backplane comprising:
- a substrate comprising an at least partially flexible material;
a plurality of backplane traces formed as part of the substrate;
a first plurality of connector islands aligned along a first axis and configured to receive a respective mating electrical component;
a second plurality of connector islands aligned along a second axis parallel with the first axis and configured to receive a respective mating electrical component;
a first plurality of spring elements extending across the second axis to connect the first plurality of connector islands to the substrate, wherein;
traces of the plurality of backplane traces extend over the first plurality of spring elements to the first plurality of connector islands; and
the first plurality of spring elements allows the first plurality of connector islands to flex with respect to the substrate and absorb vibrations; and
a second plurality of spring elements extending across the first axis to connect the second plurality of connector islands to the substrate, wherein;
traces of the plurality of backplane traces extend over the second plurality of spring elements to the second plurality of connector islands; and
with the second plurality of spring elements allows the second plurality of connector islands to flex with respect to the substrate and absorb vibrations.

Abstract
A backplane configured to receive electrical components is provided. The backplane in one example includes a substrate comprising an at least partially flexible material, a plurality of backplane traces formed as part of the substrate, at least one connector island formed in the substrate, with the at least one connector island located in an opening in the substrate and configured to receive at least one mating electrical component, and one or more spring elements bridging between the at least one connector island and the substrate, with traces of the plurality of backplane traces extending over the one or more spring elements to the at least one connector island and with the one or more spring elements allowing the at least one connector island to flex with respect to the substrate and absorb vibrations.

11. An apparatus comprising a backplane configured to receive electrical components, the backplane comprising:
-
a substrate comprising an at least partially flexible material; a plurality of backplane traces formed as part of the substrate; a series of alternating connector islands formed along two substantially parallel axes extending substantially lengthwise on the substrate, wherein;
each connector island is able to move independently of other connector islands;
pairs of connector islands of the series of connector islands located in openings in the substrate and configured to receive one or more mating electrical components; and
a first connector island of a first axis is laterally spaced from an adjacent second connector island of a second axis along the first axis;a plurality of spring elements, each spring element extending across one of the two substantially parallel axes to connect a respective connector island formed along the other of the two substantially parallel axes to the substrate, wherein;
traces of the plurality of backplane traces extend over the plurality of spring elements to the particular connector island; and
the plurality of spring elements allows the particular connector island to flex with respect to the substrate and absorb vibrations; andone or more limiter elements positioned underneath the backplane and configured to limit deflection amplitudes of the connector islands to prevent displacement of the plurality of spring elements beyond a predetermined displacement. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17)

18. A method of absorbing vibrations in one or more electrical components installed to a backplane, comprising:
-
in the backplane, receiving two or more electrical components on two or more connector components affixed to two or more corresponding connector islands formed in a substrate of the backplane; in the backplane, allowing a first connector island coupled to a first electrical component to;
independently deflect with respect to the substrate; and
absorb vibrations generated by the first electrical component;in the backplane, allowing a second connector island coupled to a second electrical component to;
independently deflect with respect to the substrate; and
not receive vibrations present in the substrate;allowing one or more limiter projections to limit deflection amplitudes of the connector islands to prevent displacement of the connector islands beyond a predetermined displacement; and allowing one or more fasteners to;
allow displacement of the connector islands toward the one or more limiter projections; and
prevent displacement of the connector islands beyond a predetermined displacement away from the one or more limiter projections. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20)
