Multi-interval dispatch system tools for enabling dispatchers in power grid control centers to manage changes
First Claim
1. A system, comprising:
- a processor; and
a memory communicatively coupled to the processor, the memory having stored therein computer-executable instructions, comprising;
a plurality of scheduler engines, respectively having different look-ahead periods, configured to generate respective schedules that forecast availability of at least one energy source employed in generation of electrical power in a power grid; and
an energy system tool configured to;
generate a comprehensive operating plan that merges the respective schedules generated by the plurality of scheduler engines,dispatch at least one resource of the power grid according to the comprehensive operating plan to generate the electrical power in the power grid using the at least one energy source, andtrigger an update of the comprehensive operating plan in response to at least one of a minimum uptime or minimum downtime associated with the at least one resource being determined to have been reached.

Abstract
A system tool that provides dispatchers in power grid control centers with a capability to manage changes. Included is a user interface and a plurality of scheduler engines. Each scheduler engine is configured to look ahead at different time frames to forecast system conditions and alter generation patterns within the different time frames. A comprehensive operating plan holds schedules generated by the plurality of scheduler engines. A relational database is coupled to the comprehensive operating plan. Input data is initially received from the relational database for each scheduling engine, and thereafter the relational database receives data from the scheduling engines relative to forecast system conditions.

8. A method, comprising:
-
generating, by a system including a processor via a plurality of scheduler engines respectively having different look-ahead periods, respective schedules associated with the plurality of scheduler engines that forecast availability of at least one energy source employed in generation of electrical power in a power grid, wherein at least one scheduler engine of the plurality of scheduler engines is a mixed integer programming based optimization application and at least one other scheduler engine of the plurality of scheduler engines is a linear programming based optimization application; generating, by the system, a comprehensive operating plan based on merging the respective schedules; dispatching, by the system, at least one resource of the power grid based on the comprehensive operating plan to generate the electrical power in the power grid using the at least one energy source; and trigger, by the system, an update of the comprehensive operating plan in response to at least one of a minimum uptime or minimum downtime associated with the at least one resource being determined to have been reached. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14)

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution, cause a system including a processor to perform operations comprising:
-
generating, via a plurality of scheduler engines respectively having different look-ahead periods, respective schedules associated with the plurality of scheduler engines that forecast availability of at least one energy source employed in connection with generation of electrical power in a power grid, wherein at least one scheduler engine of the plurality of scheduler engines employs a constraint defining a maximum number of startups or shutdowns for the at least one resource in generating a schedule of the respective schedules; generating a comprehensive operating plan based on merging the respective schedules; and dispatching at least one resource of the power grid based on the comprehensive operating plan to generate the electrical power in the power grid using the at least one energy source. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
