1. A method for reducing power consumption in a communication device, comprising:
- receiving, by the communication device, at least a portion of a packet;
determining a subset of components of the communication device for which to reduce power based, at least in part, on a length of the packet, wherein the components include at least one component selected from a group consisting of a radio transmission unit, a radio receiver unit, a synthesizer and a clock in a physical layer of the communication device; and
reducing the power to the subset of the components for a time period based, at least in part, on the length of the packet and on determining by the communication device that the packet includes padded data to be discarded by the communication device,wherein the components in the subset of the components vary based, at least in part, on the length of the packet.

a network interface having components including a radio receiver unit, a radio transmission unit, and a synthesizer, wherein the radio receiver unit is configured to receive at least a portion of a packet; and a processor communicatively coupled to the network interface, the processor configured to execute instructions to cause the communication device to; determine a subset of the components for which to reduce power based, at least in part, on a length of the packet, wherein the components include at least one component selected from a group consisting of the radio transmission unit, the radio receiver unit, the synthesizer and a clock in a physical layer of the communication device; and reduce the power to the subset of the components for a time period based, at least in part, on the length of the packet and on determining by the communication device that the packet includes padded data to be discarded by the communication device, wherein the components in the subset of the components vary based, at least in part, on the length of the packet. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18)
