1. A method of wireless communication of audio/video (AV) information between AV devices, comprising:

  • receiving AV information from a first AV interface via a first wired AV interface in a first AV device;

    performing interface dependent processing on the AV information that comprises separation of AV information into audio data, video data and interface specific control data for a first AV interface type, and conversion of the interface specific control data, the audio data and the video data, wherein the interface specific control data is converted to interface-independent control information;

    converting a first packet format to a second packet format for packetizing the audio data, the video data and the interface-independent control information; and

    transmitting the audio data, the video data and the interface-independent control information in the second packet format over a wireless channel to a wireless receiver of a second AV device including a second wired AV interface for a second AV interface type that is a different type of AV wired interface from the first AV interface type;

    wherein;

    the audio data, video data and the interface-independent control information are transmitted from a wireless transceiver over the wireless channel;

    a first portion of the interface-independent control information is transmitted in data islands during horizontal and vertical blanking periods in one or more frames; and

    a second portion of the interface-independent control information is transmitted via an inter-integrated circuit (I2C) interface or an integrated interchip sound (I2S) interface.
