Abstract

A wireless device receives a control message configuring cell groups comprising a first cell group and a second cell group. The wireless device receives a control command causing the wireless device to transmit a random access preamble on a secondary cell in the secondary cell group. Transmission timing of the random access preamble is determined, at least in part, employing uplink subframe transmission timing of the primary cell or a stored timing advance value.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a wireless device, at least one control message comprising configuration parameters of a plurality of cells comprising a first cell group and a second cell group, wherein;

uplink transmission timing associated with the first cell group is based on a first cell of the first cell group; and

uplink transmission timing associated with the second cell group is based on a second cell of the second cell group;

receiving a control command configured to cause the wireless device to transmit a random access preamble via random access resources of a cell of the second cell group; and

transmitting the random access preamble via the random access resources of the cell of the second cell group, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is based, at least in part, on uplink subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell group.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is further based, at least in part, on a synchronization signal received by the wireless device via the second cell.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is time aligned with uplink subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of random access resource parameters, and wherein the plurality of random access resource parameters comprise an index, a frequency offset, and a plurality of sequence parameters.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one control message further comprises configuration parameters of the random access resources.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of media access control dedicated parameters comprising a plurality of time alignment timer values, and wherein one of the plurality of time alignment timer values is associated with one of a plurality of cell groups comprising the first cell group and the second cell group.

7. A wireless device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to;

receive at least one control message comprising configuration parameters of a plurality of cells comprising a first cell group and a second cell group, wherein;

uplink transmission timing associated with the first cell group is based on a first cell of the first cell group; and

uplink transmission timing associated with the second cell group is based on a second cell of the second cell group;

receive a control command configured to cause the wireless device to transmit a random access preamble via random access resources of a cell of the second cell group; and

transmit the random access preamble via the random access resources of the cell of the second cell group, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is based, at least in part, on uplink subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell group.

8. The wireless device of claim 7, wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is further based, at least in part, on a synchronization signal received by the wireless device via the second cell.

9. The wireless device of claim 7, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is time aligned with uplink frame and subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell.

10. The wireless device of claim 7, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of random access resource parameters, and wherein the plurality of random access resource parameters comprise an index, a frequency offset, and a plurality of sequence parameters.

11. The wireless device of claim 7, wherein the at least one control message further comprises configuration parameters of the random access resources.

12. The wireless device of claim 7, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of media access control dedicated parameters comprising a plurality of time alignment timer values, and wherein one of the plurality of time alignment timer values is associated with one of a plurality of cell groups comprising the first cell group and the second cell group.

21. The wireless device of claim 7, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a parameter for a time alignment timer of the second cell group, wherein the time alignment timer starts or restarts in response to the wireless device receiving at least one timing advance command (TAC) for the second cell group, and wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:

generate a first updated timing advance value (TAV) by updating, using at least one first TAC for the second cell group, a first TAV of the second cell group; and

store the first updated TAV in the memory in response to expiry of the time alignment timer; and

wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is further based, at least in part, on the stored first updated TAV.

13. A method comprising:

receiving, by a wireless device, at least one control message comprising;

configuration parameters of a plurality of cells comprising a first cell group and a second cell group; and

a parameter for a time alignment timer of the second cell group, wherein the time alignment timer starts or restarts in response to the wireless device receiving at least one timing advance command (TAC) for the second cell group;

generating a first updated timing advance value (TAV) by updating a first TAV of the second cell group employing at least one first TAC for the second cell group;

storing the first updated TAV in response to expiry of the time alignment timer;

receiving a control command causing the wireless device to transmit a random access preamble via random access resources of a cell of the second cell group; and

transmitting the random access preamble, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is based, at least in part, on the stored first updated TAV.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the first TAV is based, at least in part, on a difference between a received signal timing of a timing reference and a transmission timing of uplink signals.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the first TAV is initiated by a random access response for a first random access preamble transmitted via the second cell group, and wherein the random access response comprises the first TAV.

16. The method of claim 13, further comprising setting the first TAV to zero during configuration of the second cell group.

17. The method of claim 13, further comprising releasing the stored first updated TAV by the wireless device during release of the second cell group.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of random access resource parameters, and wherein the plurality of random access resource parameters comprise an index, a frequency offset, and a plurality of sequence parameters.

19. The method of claim 13, wherein the configuration parameters comprise first configuration parameters of the random access resources.

20. The method of claim 13, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of media access control dedicated parameters, and wherein the plurality of media access control dedicated parameters comprise a plurality of time alignment timer values each associated with a unique cell group.

22. A base station comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station to;

transmit at least one control message comprising configuration parameters of a plurality of cells comprising a first cell group and a second cell group, wherein;

uplink transmission timing associated with the first cell group is based on a first cell of the first cell group; and

uplink transmission timing associated with the second cell group is based on a second cell of the second cell group;

transmit a control command configured to cause a transmission of a random access preamble via random access resources of a cell of the second cell group; and

receive the random access preamble via the random access resources of the cell of the second cell group, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is based, at least in part, on uplink subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell group.

23. The base station of claim 22, wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is further based, at least in part, on a synchronization signal transmitted by the base station via the second cell.

24. The base station of claim 22, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is time aligned with uplink frame and subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell.

25. The base station of claim 22, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of random access resource parameters, and wherein the plurality of random access resource parameters comprise an index, a frequency offset, and a plurality of sequence parameters.

26. The base station of claim 22, wherein the at least one control message further comprises configuration parameters of the random access resources.

27. The base station of claim 22, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of media access control dedicated parameters comprising a plurality of time alignment timer values, and wherein one of the plurality of time alignment timer values is associated with one of a plurality of cell groups comprising the first cell group and the second cell group.

28. The base station of claim 22, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a parameter for a time alignment timer of the second cell group, wherein the time alignment timer starts or restarts based on the base station transmitting at least one timing advance command (TAC) for the second cell group, and wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is further based, at least in part, on a timing advance value (TAV).

29. A method comprising:

transmitting, by a base station, at least one control message comprising configuration parameters of a plurality of cells comprising a first cell group and a second cell group, wherein;

uplink transmission timing associated with the first cell group is based on a first cell of the first cell group; and

uplink transmission timing associated with the second cell group is based on a second cell of the second cell group;

transmitting a control command configured to cause a transmission of a random access preamble via random access resources of a cell of the second cell group; and

receiving the random access preamble via the random access resources of the cell of the second cell group, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is based, at least in part, on uplink subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell group.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is further based, at least in part, on a synchronization signal transmitted by the base station via the second cell.

31. The method of claim 29, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is time aligned with uplink frame and subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell.

32. The method of claim 29, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of random access resource parameters, and wherein the plurality of random access resource parameters comprise an index, a frequency offset, and a plurality of sequence parameters.

33. The method of claim 29, wherein the at least one control message further comprises configuration parameters of the random access resources.

34. The method of claim 29, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of media access control dedicated parameters comprising a plurality of time alignment timer values, and wherein one of the plurality of time alignment timer values is associated with one of a plurality of cell groups comprising the first cell group and the second cell group.

35. The method of claim 29, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a parameter for a time alignment timer of the second cell group, wherein the time alignment timer starts or restarts based on the base station transmitting at least one timing advance command (TAC) for the second cell group, and wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is further based, at least in part, on a timing advance value (TAV).

36. A system comprising:

a base station comprising;

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors of the base station, cause the base station to;

transmit at least one control message comprising configuration parameters of a plurality of cells comprising a first cell group and a second cell group, wherein;

uplink transmission timing associated with the first cell group is based on a first cell of the first cell group; and

uplink transmission timing associated with the second cell group is based on a second cell of the second cell group;

transmit a control command configured to cause a transmission of a random access preamble via random access resources of a cell of the second cell group; and

a wireless device comprising;

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors of the wireless device, cause the wireless device to;

transmit the random access preamble via the random access resources of the cell of the second cell group, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is based, at least in part, on uplink subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell group.

37. The system of claim 36, wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is further based, at least in part, on a synchronization signal received by the wireless device via the second cell.

38. The system of claim 36, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is time aligned with uplink frame and subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell.

39. The system of claim 36, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of random access resource parameters, and wherein the plurality of random access resource parameters comprise an index, a frequency offset, and a plurality of sequence parameters.

40. The system of claim 36, wherein the at least one control message further comprises configuration parameters of the random access resources.

41. The system of claim 36, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of media access control dedicated parameters comprising a plurality of time alignment timer values, and wherein one of the plurality of time alignment timer values is associated with one of a plurality of cell groups comprising the first cell group and the second cell group.

42. The system of claim 36, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a parameter for a time alignment timer of the second cell group, wherein the time alignment timer starts or restarts in response to the wireless device receiving at least one timing advance command (TAC) for the second cell group, and wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors of the wireless device, cause the wireless device to:

generate a first updated timing advance value (TAV) by updating, using at least one first TAC for the second cell group, a first TAV of the second cell group; and

store the first updated TAV in the memory of the wireless device in response to expiry of the time alignment timer; and

wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is further based, at least in part, on the stored first updated TAV.

43. A method comprising:

transmitting, by a base station and to a wireless device, at least one control message comprising configuration parameters of a plurality of cells comprising a first cell group and a second cell group, wherein;

uplink transmission timing associated with the first cell group is based on a first cell of the first cell group; and

uplink transmission timing associated with the second cell group is based on a second cell of the second cell group;

transmitting, by the base station and to the wireless device, a control command configured to cause a transmission of a random access preamble via random access resources of a cell of the second cell group; and

transmitting, by the wireless device and to the base station, the random access preamble via the random access resources of the cell of the second cell group, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is based, at least in part, on uplink subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell group.

44. The method of claim 43, wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is further based, at least in part, on a synchronization signal received by the wireless device via the second cell.

45. The method of claim 43, wherein transmission timing of the random access preamble is time aligned with uplink frame and subframe transmission timing associated with the first cell.

46. The method of claim 43, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of random access resource parameters, and wherein the plurality of random access resource parameters comprise an index, a frequency offset, and a plurality of sequence parameters.

47. The method of claim 43, wherein the at least one control message further comprises configuration parameters of the random access resources.

48. The method of claim 43, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a plurality of media access control dedicated parameters comprising a plurality of time alignment timer values, and wherein one of the plurality of time alignment timer values is associated with one of a plurality of cell groups comprising the first cell group and the second cell group.

49. The method of claim 43, wherein the at least one control message further comprises a parameter for a time alignment timer of the second cell group, wherein the time alignment timer starts or restarts in response to the wireless device receiving at least one timing advance command (TAC) for the second cell group, and wherein the method further comprises:

generating, by the wireless device, a first updated timing advance value (TAV) by updating, using at least one first TAC for the second cell group, a first TAV of the second cell group; and

storing the first updated TAV in response to expiry of the time alignment timer; and

wherein the transmission timing of the random access preamble is further based, at least in part, on the stored first updated TAV.
