- a hardware processor that is programmed to;
receive a request for a first video content item from a client device;
in response to the request for the first video content item, cause the client device to playback a second video content item in a video window; and
cause the client device to display an overlay element that is positioned over the video window, wherein the overlay element includes a thumbnail representation of the first video content item and a counter indicating when the overlay element will become selectable, and wherein in response to receiving a selection of the overlay element upon an expiration of the counter, the second video content item is skipped and the first video content item is played back.
