1. A method of performing neurostimulation by a cochlear stimulation system, the method comprising:

  • transferring an item of patient specific information from a non-implantable speech processor of a cochlear stimulation system to an implantable neurostimulator portion of the cochlear stimulation system;

    storing the item of patient specific information in a non-volatile memory of the implantable neurostimulator portion of the cochlear stimulation system;

    initializing the implantable neurostimulator portion of the cochlear stimulation system using the item of patient specific information stored in the non-volatile memory; and

    neurostimulating a cochlear nerve with an electrical current configured from the item of patient specific information stored in the non-volatile memory,wherein the item of patient specific information comprises a personalized configuration setting of stimulation parameters for use by the implantable neurostimulator portion.
