Abstract

A method of performing a downlink machine type communication from a base station to a MTC (machine type communication) terminal includes, at the base station, transmitting at least one of a system information—the system information excluding a Master Information Block (MIB)—, a control information and data to the MTC terminal using a system bandwidth having a predetermined size. The base station performs frequency hopping using a frequency hopping pattern in a unit of narrow band on the at least one of the system information—the system information excluding a Master Information Block (MIB)—, the control information and the data to transmit to the MTC terminal, and the narrow band is less than the system bandwidth.

Claims

1. A terminal for receiving a downlink communication from a base station, the terminal comprising:

a transceiver that transmits and receives a radio signal; and

a processor operatively coupled with the transceiver and configured to;

receive system information, control information and data from the base station,

wherein a frequency hopping is performed on the system information, the control information and the data,

wherein the frequency hopping is performed using a frequency hopping pattern,

wherein the frequency hopping is not performed on a Master Information Block (MIB),

wherein a granularity for the frequency hopping pattern varies according to a coverage level,

wherein, when the granularity for the frequency hopping pattern is set as a common value, the common value varies according to the coverage level, and

wherein, when the common value varies according to the coverage level, the common value is received by the terminal via a System Information Block (SIB) message.

2. The terminal of claim 1, wherein the frequency hopping pattern is generated or determined by using a combination of a cell identifier (ID), a system frame number and a subframe index.

3. The terminal of claim 1, wherein the frequency hopping pattern is received using a persistent scheduling or a semi-persistent scheduling.

4. The terminal of claim 1, wherein the frequency hopping is not performed on a Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS) and a Secondary Synchronization Signal (SSS) for a synchronization, and a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) carrying the system information.

5. The terminal of claim 1, wherein a repetition level used for the frequency hopping varies according to the coverage level, and wherein the granularity for the frequency hopping pattern is one of the common value, multiple values, and a variable value.

6. The terminal of claim 5, wherein, when a time division duplex (TDD) transmission scheme is applied, an identical set of narrow bands is used for an uplink transmission and a downlink transmission.

7. The terminal of claim 5, wherein, when the granularity for the frequency hopping pattern is set as the variable value, the granularity for the frequency hopping pattern is determined based on at least one of a repetition number and a number of narrow bands used for the frequency hopping.

8. A device for receiving a downlink communication from a base station, the device comprising:

a transceiver that transmits and receives a radio signal; and

a processor operatively coupled with the transceiver and configured to;

receive system information, control information and data from the base station,

wherein a frequency hopping is performed on the system information, the control information and the data,

wherein the frequency hopping is performed using a frequency hopping pattern,

wherein the frequency hopping is not performed on a Master Information Block (MIB),

wherein a granularity for the frequency hopping pattern varies according to a coverage level,

wherein, when the granularity for the frequency hopping pattern is set as a common value, the common value varies according to the coverage level, and

wherein, when the common value varies according to the coverage level, the common value is received by the terminal via a System Information Block (SIB) message.

9. The device of claim 8, wherein the frequency hopping pattern is generated or determined by using a combination of a cell identifier (ID), a system frame number and a subframe index.

10. The device of claim 8, wherein the frequency hopping pattern is received using a persistent scheduling or a semi-persistent scheduling.

11. The device of claim 8, wherein the frequency hopping is not performed on a Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS) and a Secondary Synchronization Signal (SSS) for a synchronization, and a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) carrying the system information.

12. The device of claim 8, wherein, when a time division duplex (TDD) transmission scheme is applied, an identical set of narrow bands is used for an uplink transmission and a downlink transmission.

13. The device of claim 8, wherein a repetition level used for the frequency hopping varies according to the coverage level, and wherein the granularity for the frequency hopping pattern is one of the common value, multiple values, and a variable value.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein when the granularity for the frequency hopping pattern is set as the variable value, the granularity for the frequency hopping pattern is determined based on at least one of a repetition number and a number of narrow bands used for the frequency hopping.

15. The device of claim 8, wherein an available narrow band set of the frequency hopping is notified to the device by using a System Information Block (SIB).

16. The device of claim 8, wherein a narrow band set of the frequency hopping is limited to a specific narrow band set and the frequency hopping is performed at a specific narrow band set.

17. A method of performing a random access procedure between a terminal and a base station, the method comprising:

performing, by the base station, a synchronization with the terminal; and

transmitting, by the base station, system information to the terminal,

wherein a PRACH(Physical Random Access Channel) signal is used to distinguish between a coverage extension terminal and a normal terminal,

wherein a PRACH corresponds to a PRACH of a Narrow Band-IoT (NB-IoT), the NB-IoT uses a reduced bandwidth which is smaller than a 1.4 Mhz bandwidth of a Machine Type Communication (MTC) device, and an uplink of the NB-IoT uses a sub-carrier spacing smaller than a sub-carrier spacing of the downlink of the NB-IoT.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein an uplink transmission of the PRACH of the Narrow Band-IoT (NB-IoT) is performed by using a single tone transmission together with a frequency hopping.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein the PRACH of the Narrow Band-IoT (NB-IoT) is transmitted at a maximum power.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein, if more than one repetition level is configured or used in a cell, the terminal transmits the PRACH of the Narrow Band-IoT (NB-IoT) with a maximum power except for the lowest repetition level, otherwise, the terminal transmits the PRACH of the Narrow Band-IoT (NB-IoT) by using a power ramping scheme.
