1. A speaker apparatus, comprising:
- a first member positioned at a first location and configured to move along a first direction to generate a first signal that has a frequency within a first range of frequencies; and
a second member that operates as a shutter and that is positioned at a second location spaced apart from the first location, and configured to move along a second direction to operate as the shutter on the first signal to generate a second signal that has a frequency within a second range of frequencies, wherein to operate as the shutter on the first signal to generate the second signal, the second member is configured to move along the second direction to reveal and cover at least one opening through which the first signal passes, andwherein the second range of frequencies is lower than the first range of frequencies.

Abstract
Techniques described herein generally relate to generating an audio signal with a speaker. In some examples, a speaker device is described that includes a membrane and a shutter. The membrane can be configured to oscillate along a first directional path and at a first frequency effective to generate an ultrasonic acoustic signal. The shutter can be positioned about the membrane and configured to modulate the ultrasonic acoustic signal such that an audio signal can be generated.

16. A method to generate an output wave from a speaker device, the method comprising:
-
actuating a first element to move to generate a first wave with a frequency within a first range of frequencies; directing the generated first wave to propagate alone a waveguide; receiving, at a second element that operates as a shutter, the generated first wave that has propagated along the waveguide; and actuating the second element to move to operate as the shutter on the received first wave to generate the output wave, wherein to operate as the shutter on the received first wave to generate the output wave, the second element is actuated to move to reveal and cover at least one opening through which the first wave passes, and wherein the output wave has a frequency in a second range of frequencies that includes an audio range of frequencies. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18, 19, 20)
