1. A wearable UV sensing device comprising:
- a wearable housing that comprises a UV sensor, a visible light sensor, a proximity sensor, and a storage device that has stored thereon a computer executable method for automatically causing the wearable UV sensing device to enter a sleep mode, the computer executable method comprising;
receiving information indicative of a signal from the visible light sensor;
using the information to determine if a condition of darkness adjacent the UV sensor exists;
receiving information indicative of a signal from the proximity sensor and determining if a material covering the device is responsible for the condition of darkness; and
initiating the sleep mode if a determination has been made that a condition of darkness exists and it is not caused by a material covering the proximity sensor.

Abstract
Systems and methods for accurate measurement and real-time feedback of solar ultraviolet exposure for management of ultraviolet dose. The systems can include a wearable device including a proximity sensor, the proximity sensor used to initiate an alert that the proximity sensor is covered. The systems can include a visible light sensor, the visible light sensor used to enter into a sleep, or night, mode.
