Ostomy appliance
First Claim
1. An ostomy appliance comprising a deployment prevention element, a pouch, and a housing comprising an internal lumen, a distal end, and a proximal end coupled to the pouch, wherein the distal end has an opening in fluid communication with an opening in the proximal end through the internal lumen, the ostomy wafer has an opening to surround a stoma, the distal end is adapted to be coupled to the ostomy wafer around the opening to surround the stoma, the deployment prevention element is configured to hold the pouch in a collapsed configuration,the pouch is deployable into a waste collection configuration by releasing the pouch from the deployment prevention element when a user needs to eliminate waste through the stoma, at least a portion of the interior of the pouch in the collapsed and waste collection configurations is in fluid communication with the opening in the proximal end, and, when coupled to the wafer, the interior of the pouch in the waste collection configuration is in fluid communication with the opening to surround the stoma via the internal lumen, so that waste passes from the stoma through the internal lumen and into the interior of the pouch;
- andwherein the deployment prevention element covers the pouch in the collapsed configuration and is not attached to the pouch.
