1. A transmission medium, comprising:
- a plurality of cables bundled together in the transmission medium, each cable comprising a core, wherein a structure of each core of the plurality of cables varies in shape to reduce cross-talk between the plurality of cables; and
a material surrounding at least a portion of each core of the plurality of cables, wherein each core is configured to enable an electromagnetic wave to be bound to the core rather than the material, wherein the electromagnetic wave has an electric field intensity profile that is substantially concentrated within the material, wherein the electromagnetic wave has a non-optical frequency range, and wherein the material reduces exposure of the electromagnetic wave to an environment.

Abstract
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a transmission medium for propagating electromagnetic waves. The transmission medium can include a plurality of cores for selectively guiding an electromagnetic wave of a plurality of electromagnetic waves longitudinally along each core, and a shell surrounding at least a portion of each core for reducing exposure of the electromagnetic wave of each core. Other embodiments are disclosed.

15. A method, comprising:
-
receiving, by a transmission medium, a plurality signals supplied by a plurality of launchers, wherein each signal of the plurality signals conveys different data, and wherein the transmission medium comprises a plurality of cores, wherein each core is surrounded at least in part by a covering, wherein a structure of each core of the plurality of cores varies in shape to reduce cross-talk between the plurality of cores; and selectively coupling, by the transmission medium, to each signal of the plurality signals to generate a guided electromagnetic wave at each of the plurality of cores each guided electromagnetic wave having an electric field intensity profile that is substantially concentrated within the covering, wherein the guided electromagnetic wave propagating at each core has a non-optical frequency range, and wherein the covering of each core reduces exposure of the guided electromagnetic wave propagating at each core. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18)
