Systems and methods for interacting with external content objects
First Claim
1. A system provided by a first provider for interacting with a content object of a content management data source provided by a second provider, the content management data source being external to a database system, the second provider being different from the first provider, the system comprising:
- the database system implemented using a server system comprising one or more hardware processors, the database system configurable to cause;
sending a first request from a content hub of the database system to a repository-specific connector in communication with and specific to the content management data source, the content hub defined at least in part by a plurality of middleware components;
processing data of the content object received via the repository-specific connector at the content hub of the database system;
creating or updating a persistent object in a database of the database system to store the content object data, the persistent object uniquely representing the content object in the database system;
displaying a graphical component representing the persistent object in a user interface on a display of a user device, the user interface providing services of a social networking system associated with the database system, the persistent object configured to be followed, shared, and commented upon by users of the social networking system through one or more feeds of the social networking system;
identifying user input received from the user device in association with the graphical component as an update to the content object;
sending, from the content hub of the database system to the repository-specific connector, a second request to update the content object to reflect the update; and
updating the persistent object to reflect the update.

Abstract
Disclosed are methods, apparatus, systems, and computer readable storage media for interacting with a content object from an on-demand database service. The content object can be stored in an external content management data source. Access can be established with the external content object using information data identifying the content object, where the information data identifying the content object can be stored in a persistent object in a database of the on-demand database service. An indication of an event requesting interaction with the content object can be received. The persistent object can be updated to reflect the interaction with the content object.

8. A method associated with a first provider for interacting with a content object of a content management data source provided by a second provider, the content management data source being external to a database system, the second provider being different from the first provider, the method comprising:
-
sending a first request from a content hub of the database system implemented using a server system comprising one or more hardware processors to a repository-specific connector in communication with and specific to the content management data source, the content hub defined at least in part by a plurality of middleware components; processing data of the content object received via the repository-specific connector at the content hub of the database system; creating or updating a persistent object in a database of the database system to store the content object data, the persistent object uniquely representing the content object in the database system; causing display of a graphical component representing the persistent object in a user interface on a display of a user device, the user interface providing services of a social networking system associated with the database system, the persistent object configured to be followed, shared, and commented upon by users of the social networking system through one or more feeds of the social networking system; identifying user input received from the user device in association with the graphical component as an update to the content object; updating the persistent object to reflect the update. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11)

12. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions executable by a computing device to cause a method to be performed in association with a first provider for interacting with a content object of a content management data source provided by a second provider, the content management data source being external to a database system, the second provider being different from the first provider, the instructions configurable to cause:
-
sending a first request from a content hub of the database system implemented using a server system comprising one or more hardware processors to a repository-specific connector in communication with and specific to the content management data source, the content hub defined at least in part by a plurality of middleware components; processing data of the content object received via the repository-specific connector at the content hub of the database system; creating or updating a persistent object in a database of the database system to store the content object data, the persistent object uniquely representing the content object in the database system; displaying a graphical component representing the persistent object in a user interface on a display of a user device, the user interface providing services of a social networking system associated with the database system, the persistent object configured to be followed, shared, and commented upon by users of the social networking system through one or more feeds of the social networking system; identifying user input received from the user device in association with the graphical component as an update to the content object; sending, from the content hub of the database system to the repository-specific connector, a second request to update the content object to reflect the update; and updating the persistent object to reflect the update. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17)
