Storing multiple instances of content
First Claim
1. A method for recording multiple instances of television channels, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a content receiver, one or more instructions to initiate recording by the content receiver;
in response to the one or more instructions, setting one or more tuners to receive multiple transponder streams, the multiple transponder streams comprising a first transponder stream and a second transponder stream;
receiving, via the one or more tuners, the first transponder stream comprising a first set of content and the second transponder stream comprising a second set of content, the first set of content and the second set of content scrambled using a same control word, wherein;
the first transponder stream comprises a first set of television channels, andthe second transponder stream comprises a second set of television channels;
descrambling the first set of television channels and the second set of television channels using a single descrambler and the same control word; and
recording the first set of television channels and the second set of television channels to a storage medium of the content receiver.

Abstract
Content receivers may simultaneously record multiple instances of content for multiple programming channels based on content provider instructions. Systems and methods utilize the content receivers to record these multiple instances from at least a single transponder. In some instances, multiple transponders may have a common control word so that content carried on each such transponder may be simultaneously received, decoded and recorded. Further, a single demodulator may be associated with multiple tuners, so that the single demodulator processes all content received from transponders with common control words and/or other encryption mechanisms.

18. A non-transitory processor-readable storage medium for a content receiver that causes recording the multiple instances of television channels comprising processor-readable instructions configured to cause one or more processors to:
-
receive one or more instructions to initiate recording by the content receiver; in response to the one or more instructions, set one or more tuners to simultaneously receive multiple transponder streams, the multiple transponder streams comprising a first transponder stream and a second transponder stream, wherein the first transponder stream and the second transponder stream modulated using different carrier frequencies; receive, via the one or more tuners, the first transponder stream comprising a first set of content and the second transponder stream comprising a second set of content, the first set of content and the second set of content scrambled using a same control word, wherein; the first transponder stream comprises a first set of television channels, and the second transponder stream comprises a second set of television channels; descramble the first set of television channels and the second set of television channels using a single descrambler and the same control word; and record the first set of television channels and the second set of television channels to the non-transitory processor-readable storage medium.
