1. A method comprising:
- at a power receiving device configured to be connected to a power source via a cable;
obtaining, at the power receiving device, a power loss value for the cable, wherein the power loss value is indicative of an amount of power lost through the cable during power transmission from the power source to the power receiving device;
determining, at the power receiving device, based at least in part on the power loss value for the cable, a power budget value indicative of an amount of power received by the power receiving device from the power source;
determining, at the power receiving device, a total power consumption value indicative of an amount of power consumed by the power receiving device;
selecting, at the power receiving device, based at least in part on the power budget value and the total power consumption value, a plurality of power consuming functions of the power receiving device; and
at least one of enabling and disabling, at the power receiving device, one or more of the plurality of power consuming functions for operation of the power receiving device when it is connected to the power source via the cable and receiving power from the power source.

a port configured to connect to a cable to receive power from a power source; a power sensor configured to obtain a power loss value for the cable, wherein the power loss value is indicative of an amount of power lost through the cable during power transmission from the power source to the power receiving device; and a controller configured to; determine, based at least in part on the power loss value for the cable, a power budget value indicative of an amount of power received by the power receiving device from the power source, determine a total power consumption value indicative of an amount of power consumed by the power receiving device; select, based at least in part on the power budget value and the total power consumption value, a plurality of power consuming functions of the power receiving device; and at least one of enable and disable one or more of the plurality of power consuming functions for operation of the power receiving device when it is connected to the power source via the cable and receiving power from the power source. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20)
