1. A calibration fluid cartridge for a diagnostic device, comprising:

  • a chamber for holding unused calibration fluid;

    a flow channel configured to receive calibration fluid from the chamber and to provide calibration fluid to an output;

    a pinch valve moveable between an open position and a closed position and configured to control the flow of the calibration fluid through the fluid channel, wherein the pinch valve is configured to be actuated between the open position and the closed position by a pinch valve actuator subject to a spring bias pushing against the pinch valve, and wherein the calibration fluid cartridge does not carry the actuator;

    a rod valve moveable between an open position and a closed position, wherein when the rod valve is in the closed position, the rod valve is caused to provide a pressing force against the fluid flow channel, thereby deforming the fluid flow channel wall and sealing the calibration fluid from flowing to a fluid output;

    a housing containing the chamber and the flow channel, the housing partially containing the rod valve such that a portion of the rod valve protrudes from the housing; and

    a cap coupled to the housing, the cap configured to interface with the portion of the rod valve such thatthe rod valve is moved into the closed position when the cap for the calibration fluid cartridge is removed, prior to engagement with the diagnostic device;

    wherein the rod valve is biased to the open position when the calibration fluid cartridge is inserted into the diagnostic device; and

    wherein the rod valve is returned to the closed position when the calibration fluid cartridge is removed from the diagnostic device.
