1. A method for implanting cells into a host comprising:

  • a. implanting a device into the host;

    b. allowing the device to vascularize; and

    c. loading the device with a human embryonic stem (hES) cell-derived pancreatic progenitor cell population, thereby implanting cells into a host,wherein the device comprises a cell encapsulation chamber and at least one seal is within the cell encapsulation chamber, wherein said seal within the cell encapsulation chamber does not increase the surface area of the chamber.
