1. A tracking device comprising:
- a radio frequency identification (RFID) circuit comprising encoded RFID data and disposed on a substrate;
an information bearing indicia (IBI) comprising encoded IBI data and disposed on a surface associated with the RFID circuit,wherein the RFID circuit and IBI provide at least partially redundant information when read with a respective reading device, andwherein decoded IBI data, resulting from a reading and decoding of the encoded IBI data, takes precedence over decoded RFID data, resulting from a reading and decoding of the encoded RFID data, in response to determining that the decoded RFID data from the RFID circuit is conflicting with decoded IBI data from the IBI.

-
disposing a radio frequency identification (RFID) circuit on a substrate; disposing an information bearing indicia (IBI) on a surface associated with the RFID circuit; reading and decoding encoded data from the RFID circuit and/or the IBI; and determining the RFID circuit and IBI provide comprises at least some redundant information, using decoded RFID data, resulting from a reading of encoded RFID data of the RFID circuit, over decoded IBI data, resulting from a reading of encoded IBI data of the IBI circuit, in response to determining that the decoded RFID data is conflicting with decoded IBI data. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13)

14. A hand held reader comprising:
-
a scanner for scanning at least one of an information bearing indicia (IBI) and radio frequency identification (RFID) data; a processor configured to; receive read information from an information bearing indicia (IBI) and a radio frequency identification (RFID) circuit disposed on a substrate; decoding the information read from the IBI and the RFID circuit; comparing the decoded information of the RFID circuit and of the IBI; and determining if the decoded information of the RFID circuit and IBI provide at least some redundant information when read with a respective reading device based on the comparison of the decoded information of the RFID circuit and the IBI, using the decoded information resulting from a reading of the IBI instead of or in addition to the decoded information resulting from a reading of the RFID circuit in response to determining that the decoded information resulting from the reading of the RFID circuit is conflicting with decoded information resulting from the reading of the IBI. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18, 19)
