System to assist in the release of a collapsible stent from a delivery device
First Claim
1. A delivery device for an implantable medical device having a retention member at an end thereof, the delivery device comprising:
- a shaft extending in a longitudinal direction and defining a longitudinal axis;
an elongated sheath surrounding a longitudinal portion of the shaft, the sheath being slidable relative to the shaft in the longitudinal direction;
a compartment defined inside the sheath and adapted to receive the medical device in an assembled condition;
a retainer positioned at one end of the compartment, the retainer including a recess adapted to receive the retention member of the medical device in the assembled condition, the recess extending from an open end adjacent the compartment to a closed end opposite the open end in the longitudinal direction, the recess defining a bottom surface extending in the longitudinal direction between the open and closed ends and facing in a first radial direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction;
an energy storage element positioned on the longitudinal portion of the shaft and configured to be compressed in a second radial direction opposite the first radial direction by the medical device when the elongated sheath covers the compartment containing the medical device; and
a recess insert configured to store energy, the recess insert overlying the bottom surface of the recess and configured to exert a force in the first radial direction when compressed by the retention member when the elongated sheath covers the compartment containing the medical device,wherein the energy storage element is an elastomeric element surrounding at least a part of the longitudinal portion of the shaft, a surface of the elastomeric element has a plurality of raised portions and a plurality of lowered portions distributed in a circumferential direction about the longitudinal axis, each of the raised portions and lowered portions defining a respective surface facing in the first radial direction, each of the lowered portions of the elastomeric element being disposed between two adjacent ones of the raised portions in the circumferential direction, and each of the raised portions of the elastomeric element being disposed between two adjacent ones of the lowered portions in the circumferential direction, andwherein the surfaces of the raised portions each are located at a first distance from the longitudinal axis in the first radial direction, the surfaces of the lowered portions each are located at a second distance from the longitudinal axis in the first radial direction, and the bottom surface of the recess is located at a third distance from the longitudinal axis in the first radial direction, the first distance being greater than the second and third distances.

Abstract
A delivery device for an implantable medical device having a retention member at an end thereof may include a shaft extending in a longitudinal direction and defining a longitudinal axis, an elongated sheath surrounding a longitudinal portion of the shaft, a compartment defined inside the sheath and adapted to receive the medical device in an assembled condition, a retainer positioned at one end of the compartment, and an energy storage element positioned on the longitudinal portion of the shaft and configured to be radially compressed by the medical device when the elongated sheath covers the compartment containing the medical device. The sheath may be slidable relative to the shaft in the longitudinal direction. The retainer may include a recess adapted to receive the retention member of the medical device in the assembled condition.
