1. A method of providing pain relief to a subject in need thereof, comprising orally administering to the subject an effective amount of a composition comprising:

  • an opioid selected from buprenorphine, butorphanol, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, levorphanol, meperidine, methadone, morphine, oxycodone, oxymorphone, and tramadol, or a pharmacologically effective salt thereof;

    sucrose acetate isobutyrate (SAIB);

    a cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) having a number average molecular weight ranging from 66,000 Daltons to 83,000 Daltons; and

    a solvent.
