Abstract

Systems and methods for processing, transmitting and displaying data received from an analyte sensor, such as a glucose sensor, are disclosed. In an embodiment, a method for transmitting data between a first communication device associated with an analyte sensor and a second communication device configured to provide user access to sensor-related information comprises: activating a transceiver of a first communication device associated with an analyte sensor at a first time; and establishing a two-way communication channel with the second communication device; wherein the activating comprises waking the transceiver from a low power sleep mode using a forced wakeup from the second communication device.

Claims

1. A method for transmitting data between devices of an analyte monitoring system, the method comprising:

generating sensor data using a sensor electronics module electrically connected to a continuous analyte sensor;

establishing a two-way communication channel between the sensor electronics module and a display device, wherein each of the sensor electronics module and the display device transmit via a first transmission mode at a first transmission power, wherein the transmission includes sending a portion of the sensor data from the sensor electronics module to the display device;

initiating a low power transmission mode responsive to sensing user input at a user interface of the display device indicative of entering the low power transmission mode, wherein the low power transmission mode comprises the sensor electronics module transmitting another portion of the sensor data to the display device at a second transmission power that is lower than the first transmission power;

exiting the low power transmission mode upon receiving instructions via a short-range communication protocol, that is different from the first transmission mode and the low power transmission mode, and transitioning to the first transmission mode upon exiting the low power transmission mode.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the user input comprises sensing user selection of a user-selectable button on the user interface of the display device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the second transmission power is in a range of about 25%-75% lower than the first transmission power.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmission via the first transmission mode occurs when the sensor electronics module is at a first distance from the display device.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the transmission via the low power transmission mode occurs when the sensor electronics module is at a second distance from the display device, and wherein the second distance is shorter than the first distance.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising resuming the transmitting of sensor data at the first transmission power upon the transition to the first transmission mode from the low power transmission mode.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the instructions to exit the low power transmission mode are generated responsive to the user input on the user interface of the display device.

8. A system for monitoring analyte concentration data of a host, comprising:

a continuous analyte sensor;

a sensor electronics module configured to electrically couple to the analyte sensor and generate analyte sensor data using the continuous analyte sensor; and

a display device configured to wirelessly receive information indicative of the analyte sensor data from the sensor electronics module,

wherein the sensor electronics module and the display device are configured to establish a two-way communication channel between the sensor electronics module and the display device,

wherein each of the sensor electronics module and the display device transmit at a first transmission power during a normal operating mode, wherein the transmission includes sending a portion of the sensor data from the sensor electronics module to the display device, and

wherein the sensor electronics module is configured to;

transmit another portion of the sensor data to the display device at a second transmission power that is lower than the first transmission power during a low power transmission mode that is initiated responsive to receiving user input at user interface of the display device indicative of entering the low power transmission mode,

exit the low power transmission mode upon receiving instructions via a short-range communication protocol, that is different from the normal operating mode and the low power transmission mode, and

transition to the normal operating mode upon the exit from the low power transmission mode.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the user input comprises sensing user selection of a user-selectable button on the user interface of the display device.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein the low power transmission mode is in a range of about 25%-75% lower than the normal operating mode.

11. The system of claim 8, further configured to resume the transmission of sensor data at the first transmission power upon the transition to the normal operating mode from the low power transmission mode.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein the instructions to exit the low power transmission mode are generated responsive to user input on the user interface of the display device.
