1. An apparatus for holding a vessel in a vehicle, comprising:
- a temperature sensor configured to sense a temperature of liquid in the vessel; and
a control unit coupled to the temperature sensor, whereinthe control unit is configured such that if the sensed temperature of the liquid exceeds a threshold temperature that is likely to lead to scalding of an occupant, the control unit;
i) outputs a first signal that addresses a first danger arising from a given physical property of the liquid,ii) infers that the liquid is a particular type of drink based on the given physical property of the liquid, andiii) outputs a second signal that addresses a second danger arising from a physical state of the driver, if the liquid is inferred as being the particular type of drink.

Abstract
An apparatus for holding a liquid-filled vessel includes a temperature sensor for sensing a temperature related to the temperature of the liquid in the vessel and a control unit connected to the temperature sensor. The control unit takes the sensed temperature as a basis for prompting an action. At a sensed temperature that is above a prescribed hot temperature limit value, the control unit then activates and/or influences a function that increases the safety of the vehicle occupant.

14. A method of operating an apparatus for holding a liquid-filled vessel in a motor vehicle, the method comprising the acts of:
-
sensing, via a temperature sensor, a temperature of a liquid in the liquid-filled vessel; determining, via a control unit coupled to the temperature sensor, if the temperature of the liquid in the liquid-filled vessel exceeds a threshold temperature that is likely to lead to scalding of an occupant; and if the sensed temperature of the liquid exceeds the threshold temperature, the control unit is configured to; i) output a first signal that addresses a first danger arising from a given physical property of the liquid, ii) infer that the liquid is a particular type of drink based on the given physical property of the liquid, and iii) output a second signal that addresses a second danger arising from a physical state of the driver, if the liquid is inferred as being the particular type of drink. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
