First Claim
1. A method of disseminating information relating to physical attributes of patients, comprising:
- associating with a patient at least one patient monitoring device having at least one sensor working cooperatively with at least a transmitter;
detecting at least one physical attribute from the patient using the sensor;
transmitting from the patient monitoring device patient data corresponding to the one detected physical attribute out to a device transmission area;
providing a plurality of mobile communicators each having a transceiver adapted to receive data transmitted from said patient monitoring device and from other mobile communicators, wherein each of the plurality of mobile communicators has a predetermined broadcast range for broadcasting and receiving data and is adapted to broadcast data stored therein out to its corresponding broadcast range for reception by all communicators that are within its broadcast range;
wherein when one communicator of said plurality of communicators moves to within the device transmission area of said one patient monitoring device, the patient data transmitted from the patient monitoring device is received by said one communicator;
said one communicatorcomparing patient data of the one patient, if any, previously stored in said one communicator with the received patient data;
storing the more recent of the received patient data and the previously stored patient data as updated patient data in said one communicator; and
broadcasting the updated patient data to its broadcast range;
wherein any one to multiple of the plurality of mobile communicators not located within the device transmission area of the patient monitoring device but located within the broadcast range of said one communicator are adapted to receive the updated patient data from said one communicator so that the users of said one communicator and said any one to multiple communicators that have received the patient data from said one communicator are able to monitor the physical attribute of the patient.

Abstract
A wireless network having an architecture that resembles a peer-to-peer network has two types of nodes, a first sender type node and a second receiver/relay type node. The network may be used in a medical instrumentation environment whereby the first type node may be wireless devices that could monitor physical parameters of a patient such as for example wireless oximeters. The second type node are mobile wireless communicators that are adapted to receive the data from the wireless devices if they are within the transmission range of the wireless devices. After an aggregation process involving the received data, each of the node communicators broadcasts or disseminates its most up to date data onto the network. Any other relay communicator node in the network that is within the broadcast range of a broadcasting communicator node would receive the up to date data. This makes it possible for communicators that are out of the transmitting range of a wireless device to be apprized of the condition of the patient being monitored by the wireless device. Each communicator in the network is capable of receiving and displaying data from a plurality of wireless devices.

7. A method for communicating information relating to physical attributes of patients, comprising:
-
providing multiple patient monitoring devices each having sensor means for detecting at least one physical attribute from a patient and a transmitter for transmitting the detected physical attribute; associating the multiple patient monitoring devices with corresponding ones of a plurality of patients; providing a plurality of mobile communicators each having a transceiver adapted to receive patient data transmitted from any of the patient monitoring devices and to communicate with other communicators, the transceiver for each of the plurality of communicators having a predetermined broadcast range so that only those communicators that are located within the broadcast range of said each communicator is in communication with said each communicator; locating at least one of said communicators to the transmission area of a corresponding one of said patient monitoring devices being used to detect the physical attribute of its associated patient; effecting said one communicator to receive the transmitted patient data from its corresponding one patient monitoring device; if there is patient data of the patient associated with said one patient monitoring device previously stored in said one communicator, updating the stored patient data with the received patient data if the received patient data is more recent than the stored patient data; effecting said one communicator to broadcast the most recent patient data out to its broadcast range so that any to multiple other communicators that are located within the broadcast range of the said one communicator but not within the transmission area of the one patient monitoring device are adapted to receive the patient data from said one communicator; wherein the physical attribute of the one patient is adapted to be monitored by the users of the one communicator and the any to multiple other communicators that are in receipt of the patient data of the one patient. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13)
