1. A surgical gas delivery device configured for insufflation and smoke evacuation through a gas sealed trocar having a recirculation chamber therein, the device comprising:

  • a device housing communicating with a patient'"'"'s abdominal cavity through a gas circuit that includes a recirculation chamber of a gas sealed trocar and a compressor for circulating gas to and from the recirculation chamber of the trocar, the device housing supporting a computer-controlled control unit having an oxygen gas sensor for monitoring oxygen gas concentration in the gas circuit, wherein the oxygen gas concentration in the recirculation chamber of the trocar is in direct correlation to carbon dioxide gas concentration within the patient'"'"'s abdominal cavity, wherein the control unit maintains the carbon dioxide gas concentration in the abdominal cavity within a predetermined range based on the oxygen gas concentration in the recirculation chamber of the trocar, and increases an insufflation flow rate to the abdominal cavity through the trocar if the carbon dioxide gas concentration in the abdominal cavity falls below a predetermined level as a result of leakage, by controlling the operation of the compressor, and wherein the insufflation flow rate will not be lower than a smoke evacuation level, wherein the gas circuit that includes the recirculation chamber includes a pressure line and a suction line connected by the compressor for circulating gas, wherein the oxygen gas sensor is in the gas circuit downstream of where the suction line connects through a filter interface and filter cartridge to the recirculation chamber and/or wherein the oxygen gas sensor is in the gas circuit upstream of where the pressure line connects through the filter interface and filter cartridge to the recirculation chamber.
