Abstract

Provided are a photoacoustic probe and photoacoustic diagnostic apparatus. The photoacoustic probe includes a light irradiation unit for irradiating first light that is used for photoacoustic imaging on an object and an indicator for providing information about whether the first light is irradiated by using the first light.

Claims

1. A photoacoustic probe configured to irradiate light on an object, comprising:

a light source providing a first light;

a wavelength converter on a housing of the photoacoustic probe and configured to receive a portion of the first light provided by the light source and convert the received portion of the first light into a second light having a different wavelength than the first light;

an opening disposed on the housing of the photoacoustic probe, receiving the second light from the wavelength converter, and outputting the second light itself to a user, the opening overlapping with the wavelength converter; and

a light irradiator receiving a remaining portion of the first light provided by the light source and irradiating the remaining portion of the first light on the object,

wherein the remaining portion of the first light and the second light are simultaneously output out of the housing of the photoacoustic probe such that the remaining portion of the first light is used for photoacoustic imaging and the second light is used for visibly indicating to the user whether the photoacoustic probe is irradiating the remaining portion of the first light on the object.

2. The photoacoustic probe of claim 1, wherein the wavelength of the second light comprises a wavelength range of visible light.

3. The photoacoustic probe of claim 1, wherein the second light has a longer wavelength than the first light.

4. The photoacoustic probe of claim 3 wherein the wavelength converter comprises a fluorescent material.

5. The photoacoustic probe of claim 1, wherein the second light has a shorter wavelength than the first light.

6. The photoacoustic probe of claim 5, wherein the wavelength converter comprises a nonlinear crystal material.

7. The photoacoustic probe of claim 1, further comprising:

a light deliverer receiving the first light provided by the light source and delivering the first light from the light source to the light irradiator and the wavelength converter.

8. The photoacoustic probe of claim 7, wherein the light deliverer comprises at least one optical fiber.

9. The photoacoustic probe of claim 7, wherein the light deliverer has one end connected to the light source and the other end connected to the light irradiator, and

wherein the indicator is disposed on a side of the light irradiator.

10. The photoacoustic probe of claim 7, wherein the light deliverer comprises a first light deliverer for delivering the portion of the first light to the wavelength converter and a second light deliverer for delivering the remaining portion of the first light to the light irradiator.

11. The photoacoustic probe of claim 10, wherein the first light deliverer has one end connected to the light source and the other end connected to the wavelength converter, and

wherein the second light deliverer has one end connected to the light source and the other end connected to the light irradiator.

12. The photoacoustic probe of claim 1, further comprising a transducer that receives acoustic waves generated from the object by absorbing the first light and converts the acoustic waves into electrical signals.

15. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the opening outputs the second light itself such that the second light travels to the user through a first light path, and

wherein the light irradiator irradiates the remaining portion of the first light on the object such that the remaining portion of the first light travels to the object through a second light path different from the first light path.

13. A photoacoustic diagnostic apparatus comprising:

a light source providing a first light;

a wavelength converter on a housing of a photoacoustic probe and configured to receive a portion of the first light provided by the light source and convert the received portion of the first light into a second light having a different wavelength than the first light;

a light irradiator receiving a remaining portion of the first light provided by the light source and irradiating the remaining portion of first light on the object, and a transducer receiving acoustic waves corresponding to the remaining portion of the first light and converting the acoustic waves into electrical signals;

a signal processor that processes the electrical signals received from the photoacoustic probe and generates a photoacoustic image; and

an opening disposed on the housing of the photoacoustic probe, receiving the second light from the wavelength converter, and outputting the second light itself to a user, the opening overlapping with the wavelength converter,

the remaining portion of the first light and the second light are simultaneously output out of the housing of the photoacoustic probe such that the remaining portion of the first light is used for photoacoustic imaging and the second light is used for visibly indicating to the user whether the photoacoustic probe is irradiating the remaining portion of the first light on the object.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the wavelength converter comprises at least one of a fluorescent material and a nonlinear crystal material.

16. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the opening outputs the second light itself such that the second light travels to the user through a first light path, and

wherein the light irradiator irradiates the remaining portion of the first light on the object such that the remaining portion of the first light travels to the object through a second light path different from the first light path.
