1. A system for tracking assets, the system comprising:
- a visible light source that includes a wireless signal generator configured to produce wireless signals;
a tag that includes a detector that detects the presence of the wireless signals produced by the visible light source, wherein the tag includes a transmitter that is configured to send additional wireless signals; and
a tag monitor that includes a receiver that is configured to receive the additional wireless signals, wherein the tag monitor determines a location of the tag based on the additional wireless signals received from the tag, wherein the tag includes a motion sensor that determines when the tag moves, and wherein the detector begins detecting the wireless signals when activated by the motion sensor, wherein the motion sensor determines a velocity of the tag, wherein a rate at which the detector detects the wireless signals from the visible light source is determined by the velocity of the tag.
