1. A method for fabricating an orthopaedic implant, the method comprising:

  • forming an annular ring from a biocompatible material, the annular ring having an outer sidewall, an inner sidewall, and a wireless communication device positioned between the outer sidewall and the inner sidewall,aligning the annular ring with an acetabular cup that comprises a convex outer surface, a concave inner surface, and a rim surface defined between a distal end of the outer surface and a distal end of the inner surface, andsecuring the annular ring to the rim surface of the acetabular cup such that the outer sidewall of the annular ring is congruent with the distal end of the outer surface of the acetabular cup and the inner sidewall of the annular ring is congruent with the distal end of the inner surface of the acetabular cup.
