Vehicle speed control system
First Claim
1. A vehicle speed control system for a vehicle having a plurality of wheels, the vehicle speed control system configured to automatically control the speed of the vehicle to a vehicle control speed in dependence on an input target set-speed and comprising at least one electronic controller:
- said at least one electronic controller having an input for receiving an electrical signal indicative of a user input of a target set-speed at which the vehicle is intended to travel;
said at least one electronic controller outputting a signal to apply torque to the at least one of the plurality of wheels for propelling the vehicle at the vehicle control speed;
wherein said at least one electronic controller is configured to control the vehicle control speed as a function of at least the instantaneous vehicle speed,said at least one electronic controller having an evaluator unit for evaluating the torque to be applied to at least one of the vehicle wheels and outputting a torque request signal; and
said at least one electronic controller is configured to reduce the vehicle control speed as a function of the torque request signal.

Abstract
A vehicle speed control system for controlling a vehicle having a plurality of wheels. The vehicle speed control system is configured to automatically control the speed of the vehicle in dependence on an input target set-speed. The system carries out a method that includes: applying torque to at least one of the plurality of wheels; receiving a user input of a target set-speed at which the vehicle is intended to travel; and applying torque to the at least one of the plurality of wheels for propelling the vehicle at a vehicle control speed. The system further controls the vehicle control speed as a function of at least one of the instantaneous vehicle speed and the terrain over which the vehicle is travelling.

19. A non-transient carrier medium carrying a computer readable code for controlling a vehicle to automatically control the speed of the vehicle to a vehicle control speed in dependence on an input target set-speed, wherein the computer readable code, when executed by an electronic processor, causes the processor to:
-
receive an electrical signal indicative of a user input of a target set-speed at which the vehicle is intended to travel; apply a torque to the at least one of the plurality of wheels for propelling the vehicle at the vehicle control speed; control the vehicle control speed as a function of at least the instantaneous vehicle speed; evaluate the torque to be applied to at least one of the vehicle wheels and outputting a torque request signal; and reduce the vehicle control speed in dependence on the torque request signal.
