1. A multicarrier transceiver comprising:

  • a transmitter portion of the transceiver and a receiver portion of the transceiver operable to complete an initialization procedure and operable to enter into a steady state communication mode in which user data is transmitted and receiveda receiver portion of the transceiver operable to determine whether a predetermined error threshold has been exceeded during the steady state communication mode, wherein the predetermined error threshold is based on cyclic redundancy check (CRC) errors during the steady state communication mode;

    the receiver portion of the transceiver further operable to measure a frequency domain received idle channel noise on each of a plurality of subchannels of a communications channel; and

    a transmitter portion of the transceiver operable to transmit a message after determining that the predetermined error threshold has been exceeded, the message comprising an array comprising a plurality of elements, wherein each element comprises information associated with the frequency domain received idle channel noise of at least one subchannel.
