23. A method for controlling a switching element comprising:
-
receiving, at a separate electronic fuse a signal provided by an integrated sensor of the switching element, determining a fuse condition by the electronic fuse based on the signal provided by the integrated sensor of the switching element and based on at least one fuse characteristic of the electronic fuse, and triggering a fuse event by the electronic fuse in response to the fuse condition being met, wherein the electronic fuse comprises both a software entity and a hardware entity, and wherein the software entity and the hardware entity monitor each other and provide separate output signals to a processing logic that controls the switching element to safeguard a load in a redundant manner.

24. A device comprising:
-
means for determining a fuse condition based on a load-dependent signal provided to a separate electronic fuse by an integrated sensor of a switching element and based on at least one fuse characteristic, and means for triggering a fuse event in case the fuse condition is met, wherein the electronic fuse comprises both a software entity and a hardware entity, and wherein the software entity and the hardware entity monitor each other and provide separate output signals to a processing logic that controls the switching element to safeguard a load in a redundant manner.

25. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed by a digital processing device, cause the digital processing device to:
-
receive a signal provided by an integrated sensor of a switching element, determine a fuse condition of a separate electronic fuse based on the signal provided by the integrated sensor of the switching element and based on at least one fuse characteristic of the electronic fuse, and trigger a fuse event by the electronic fuse in response to the fuse condition being met, wherein the electronic fuse comprises both a software entity and a hardware entity, and wherein the software entity and the hardware entity monitor each other and provide separate output signals to a processing logic that controls the switching element to safeguard a load in a redundant manner.
