1. A system for controlling a light in a residential or commercial location through a wireless communications link with a personal controller, the personal controller having a processor, a user interface, and a wireless communications transceiver, said system comprising:

  • at least one lighting module, said lighting module including a microcontroller and a wireless communications control module having an aerial and a radio transceiver, said lighting module being configured to vary power to the light connected to said lighting module; and

    a system administrator device including a microcontroller and a wireless communications module operable for wireless communication with the personal controller and with said lighting module, said wireless communications module including circuitry configured to communicate with the personal controller with a peer-to-peer communications link, said circuitry being configured to communicate with said lighting module with a wireless network communications link, said microcontroller of said system administrator device being configured to operate said wireless communications module of said system administrator device in more than one mode, said microcontroller of said system administrator device being configured to operate said wireless communications module of said system administrator device in a first mode with the peer-to-peer communications link, said microcontroller of said system administrator device being configured to operate said wireless communications module of said system administrator device in a second mode with a non-peer-to-peer communications link, said microcontroller of said system administrator device being configured to change from the first mode to the second mode upon receiving instructions from the personal controller for said wireless communications module to operate in the second mode.
