1. A method of preconditioning a vehicle, comprising:
- detecting an environmental condition outside of the vehicle via a camera;
sending, via a telematics system and using a wireless communication technology, a notification of the environmental condition to a remote device, wherein the remote device couples to the telematics system or a vehicle system of the vehicle via the wireless communication technology;
receiving, via the telematics system, a command from the remote device in response to the notification, wherein the command is related to a vehicle system of the vehicle; and
communicating the command to the vehicle system to cause a preconditioning of the vehicle,wherein the preconditioning of the vehicle comprises determining, based on determining whether the vehicle is at an indoor or outdoor location, one or more parameters for the preconditioning, and operating one or more components of the vehicle based on the one or more parameters to precondition the vehicle.

a vehicle preconditioning system, comprising; a camera for detecting an environmental condition outside of the vehicle; a telematics system for sending, using a wireless communication technology, a notification of the environmental condition to a remote device, wherein the remote device couples to the telematics system or a vehicle system of the vehicle via the wireless communication technology, and receiving a command from the remote device in response to the notification, wherein the command is related to a vehicle system of the vehicle; and an electronic control unit for communicating with at least one vehicle system, wherein the electronic control unit communicates the command to the vehicle system to cause a preconditioning of the vehicle, wherein the command to cause preconditioning of the vehicle includes one or more parameters for preconditioning that are based on determining whether the vehicle is at an indoor or outdoor location, and wherein the electronic control unit operates one or more components of the vehicle based on the one or more parameters to precondition the vehicle. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19)
