1. A gaming system comprising:

  • a housing;

    at least one display device including a first display device supported by the housing;

    a plurality of input devices supported by the housing, said plurality of input devices includingan acceptor, anda cashout device;

    at least one processor; and

    at least one memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to;

    responsive to a physical item being received via the acceptor, establish a credit balance based, at least in part, on a monetary value associated with the received physical item,for a first game play of a plurality of at least partially concurrently displayed game plays;

    determine a first plurality of symbols,cause a first portion of the first display device to display the determined first plurality of symbols,determine any award associated with the determined first plurality of symbols, andcause the at least one display device to display any determined award associated with the determined first plurality of symbols, andfor a second game play of the plurality of at least partially concurrently displayed game plays, responsive to a triggering event occurring;

    determine a second plurality of symbols, wherein regardless of whether any award is associated with the determined first plurality of symbols, said second plurality of symbols includes at least one of the symbols of the displayed first plurality of symbols,cause a second portion of the first display device to display the determined second plurality of symbols,determine any award associated with the determined second plurality of symbols, andcause the at least one display device to display any determined award associated with the determined second plurality of symbols, andresponsive to a cashout input being received via the cashout device, cause an initiation of any payout associated with the credit balance.
