1. A spinal cord stimulation device for delivering electrical stimulation therapy to a spinal cord, said device comprising:

  • an implantable pulse generator comprising;

    a circuit board housed in a casing, the circuit board including an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and a microcontroller, wherein the ASIC is configured to receive digital data from the microcontroller, wherein the ASIC is configured to perform all of the signal processing necessary for electrical stimulation and generate signals for electrical stimulation pulses based on said signal processing, wherein the ASIC is configured to handle all power management of the implantable pulse generator, and wherein the microcontroller is configured to remain powered down until the ASIC sends a signal to the microcontroller to power up; and

    a secondary coil housed in the casing;

    a rechargeable battery housed in the casing and operably connected with the circuit board and the secondary charging coil;

    a plurality of electrodes configured to be wired to the implantable pulse generator, wherein the plurality of electrodes are configured to send the electrical pulses to the spinal cord; and

    an external charger comprising;

    a primary charging coil;

    at least one battery; and

    a circuit board operably connected with the primary coil and the rechargeable battery,wherein the rechargeable battery in the implantable pulse generator is recharged using transcutaneous power transmissions between the primary charging coil and the secondary charging coil, andwherein the ASIC is configured to send a hardware interrupt signal to a pin of the microcontroller, andwherein the microcontroller is configured to poll the ASIC to determine the cause of the interrupt signal sent by the ASIC.
