Abstract

The present invention provides a method and system for verifying and tracking identification information. In an embodiment of the invention, a system for delivering security solutions is provided that includes at least one of the following: a radio frequency (RF) identification device, an identification mechanism (e.g., a card, sticker), and an RF reader.

Claims

1. A toll system for verifying vehicle information, the system including:

a database configured to store vehicle information;

a radio frequency device, the radio frequency device including a radio frequency antenna and a chip, the chip comprising;

a memory configured to store the vehicle information;

a cryptographic block configured to store security keys that are exchanged with a reader and that are checked and validated to grant or deny access to the memory; and

an instruction sequencer coupled with the memory and the encryption block, the instruction sequencer further configured to;

receive a signal via the radio frequency antenna, the signal comprising a request to access the memory and a security key,

cause the security key included in the received message to be checked and validated against the security key stored in the memory,

provide the vehicle information in response to the access request when the security key is checked and validated; and

a reader coupled with the database, the reader configured to carry out the exchange of the security keys by;

generating the access request, inserting the security key into the generated request, and transmitting the access request to the radio frequency device, and wherein the reader is further configured to receive the vehicle information from the radio frequency device and cause the vehicle information to be compared to the vehicle information stored in the database.

2. The toll system of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to carry out the exchange of the security keys by:

receiving a first signal via the radio frequency antenna;

receiving a second signal via the radio frequency antenna that includes a security key; and

wherein the processor is further configured to cause the security key included in the received message to be checked and validated against the security key stored in the memory, and provide the vehicle information in response to the access request when the security key is validated.

3. The toll system of claim 2, wherein the processor is further configured to carry out the exchange of the security keys by providing the security key in response to the first signal.

The toll system of claim 2, wherein the processor is further configured to carry out the exchange of the security keys by receiving a third signal via the radio frequency antenna that includes a second security key, and wherein the processor is further configured to grant access to the memory based on the validation of the second security key, and send further memory contents in response to the third signal.

5. The toll system of claim 4, wherein the processor is further configured to carry out the exchange of the security keys by providing the second security key in response to a received signal.

6. The toll system of claim 1, wherein the reader is further configured to carry out the exchange of the security keys by:

sending a first signal to a radio frequency device;

sending a second signal to the radio frequency device that includes a security key; and

wherein the reader is further configured to;

receive at least the vehicle information included in the memory in response to the second communication and as a result of validation of the security key, and transmit the vehicle information to a central server.

7. The toll system of claim 6, wherein the security key is based on information received from the radio frequency device.

8. The toll system of claim 6, wherein the reader is further configured to carry out the exchange of the security keys by receiving a response from the radio frequency device in response to the first signal and that includes the security key.

The toll system of claim 6, wherein the reader is further configured to carry out the exchange of the security keys by sending a third signal to the radio frequency device that includes a second security key for validation by the radio frequency device, and wherein the reader is further configured to receive further memory contents in response to the third signal and as a result of validation of the second security key.

10. The toll system of claim 9, wherein the second security key is based on information received from the radio frequency device.

11. The toll system of claim 9, wherein the processor is further configured to carry out the exchange of the security keys by receiving second response from the radio frequency device that includes the second security key.

12. The toll system of claim 1, wherein the security keys are encrypted when they are exchanged.

13. A toll system for verifying vehicle information, the system including:

a database configured to store vehicle information;

a radio frequency device, the radio frequency device including a radio frequency antenna and a chip, the chip comprising;

a memory configured to store the vehicle information;

a cryptographic block configured to store a credit and debit exchange keys that are exchanged with a reader and that are checked and validated to grant or deny access to the memory; and

an instruction sequencer coupled with the memory and the encryption block, the instruction sequencer further configured to;

receive a signal via the radio frequency antenna, the signal comprising a request to access the memory and a credit and debit exchange key,

cause the credit and debit exchange key included in the received message to be checked and validated against a credit and debit exchange key stored in the memory,

provide the vehicle information in response to the access request when the credit and debit exchange key is checked and validated; and

a reader coupled with the database, the reader configured to carry out the exchange of the credit and debit exchange keys by;

generating the access request, inserting a credit and debit exchange key into the generated request, and transmitting the access request to the radio frequency device, and wherein the reader is further configured to receive the vehicle information from the radio frequency device and cause the vehicle information to be compared to the vehicle information stored in the database.

14. The toll system of claim 13, wherein the processor is further configured to carry out the exchange of the credit and debit exchange keys by:

receiving a first signal via the radio frequency antenna;

receiving a second signal via the radio frequency antenna that includes a credit and debit exchange key; and

wherein the processor is further configured to cause the credit and debit exchange key included in the received message to be checked and validated against a credit and debit exchange key stored in the memory, and provide the vehicle information in response to the access request when the credit and debit exchange key is validated.

15. The toll system of claim 14, wherein the processor is further configured to carry out the exchange of the credit and debit exchange keys by providing a credit and debit exchange key in response to the first signal.

The toll system of claim 14, wherein the processor is further configured to carry out the exchange of the credit and debit exchange keys by receiving a third signal via the radio frequency antenna that includes a second credit and debit exchange key, and wherein the processor is further configured to grant access to the memory based on the validation of the second credit and debit exchange key, and send further memory contents in response to the third signal.

17. The toll system of claim 16, wherein the processor is further configured to carry out the exchange of the credit and debit exchange keys by providing the second credit and debit exchange key in response to a received signal.

18. The toll system of claim 13, wherein the reader is further configured to carry out the exchange of the credit and debit exchange keys by:

sending a first signal to a radio frequency device;

sending a second signal to the radio frequency device that includes a credit and debit exchange key; and

wherein the reader is further configured to;

receive at least the vehicle information included in the memory in response to the second communication and as a result of validation of the credit and debit exchange key, and transmit the vehicle information to a central server.

19. The toll system of claim 18, wherein the credit and debit exchange key is based on information received from the radio frequency device.

20. The toll system of claim 18, wherein the reader is further configured to carry out the exchange of the credit and debit exchange keys by receiving a response from the radio frequency device in response to the first signal and that includes a credit and debit exchange key.

The toll system of claim 18, wherein the reader is further configured to carry out the exchange of the credit and debit exchange keys by sending a third signal to the radio frequency device that includes a second credit and debit exchange key for validation by the radio frequency device, and wherein the reader is further configured to receive further memory contents in response to the third signal and as a result of validation of the credit and debit exchange security key.

22. The toll system of claim 21, wherein the second credit and debit exchange key is based on information received from the radio frequency device.

23. The toll system of claim 21, wherein the processor is further configured to carry out the exchange of the credit and debit exchange keys by receiving second response from the radio frequency device that includes the second credit and debit exchange key.

24. The toll system of claim 13, wherein the credit and debit exchange keys are encrypted when they are exchanged.
