1. A method for generating an image of tissue comprising:
- obtaining, using an intravascular imaging device positioned within a vessel of a patient, and storing, in a tangible memory coupled to a processor within a computer device comprising a display device, a three-dimensional data set representing tissue, wherein the three-dimensional data set representing tissue is a three-dimensional image of a vessel, wherein the intravascular imaging device comprises a catheter including a proximal portion, a distal portion, and an intravascular imaging element disposed at the distal portion;
composing, using the processor, a plurality of two-dimensional coaxial longitudinal images, each comprising data from the three dimensional data set and representing a planar region of the tissue, wherein all of the planar regions intersect an axis of translation of the intravascular imaging device, wherein each planar region is rotationally offset from other planar regions around the axis of translation; and
displaying, via the display device and without simultaneous operation by a user, a video comprising the plurality of two-dimensional coaxial longitudinal images displayed sequentially and looped in a repeated manner through at least a 180 degree rotational offset around the axis of translation from a first of the plurality of two dimensional coaxial longitudinal images.

Abstract
The invention relates to systems and methods for three dimensional imaging of tissue. Systems and methods of the invention receive a three dimensional data set and display a series of coaxial longitudinal images (i.e., each rotationally offset from another around an axis) in sequence, creating a video effect as if the view were scrolling around the tissue.
