System, method, and apparatus for controlling power output distribution in a hybrid power train

1. A method, comprising:

  • determining a machine shaft torque demand and a machine shaft speed of a hybrid powertrain for a vehicle, the hybrid powertrain including an internal combustion engine, a first electrical torque provider, and a second electrical torque provider, the hybrid powertrain farther including an electrical energy storage device electrically coupled to the first electrical torque provider and the second electrical torque provider, and the vehicle further comprising accessories for operating with the vehicle;

    based on the machine shaft torque demand and the machine shaft speed, determining a machine power demand for the hybrid powertrain;

    determining a baseline power division description for the hybrid powertrain based on a speed of the vehicle and the machine power demand, wherein determining the baseline power division description comprises determining a total electrical contribution, a total engine contribution, and a net power flux to at least one of the electrical power storage device and the accessories, wherein the total electrical contribution, the total engine contribution, and the net power flux combine to provide the machine power demand; and

    operating the internal combustion engine, the first electrical torque provider, the second electrical torque provider, the electrical energy storage device and the accessories based on the baseline power division description to provide the machine power demand, wherein operating the internal combustion engine, the first electrical torque provider and the second electrical torque provider includes switching the configuration of the hybrid powertrain into a parallel configuration in response to the machine power demand being greater than a parallel power threshold and switching the hybrid powertrain into a series configuration in response to the machine power demand being negative and the machine shaft speed being below an engine stall threshold value.
