1. A method of determining output inductor current for a DC-DC switching regulator comprising:

  • converting an output voltage from the DC-DC switching regulator to a digital value of the output voltage using an Analog to Digital (A/D) convertor;

    determining an indication of a capacitor current value based on the the digital value of output voltage from the A/D converter using current determination circuitry;

    storing the indication of the capacitor current in a first latch when a high side switch in the DC-DC switching regulator is closed and current is being provided from a high voltage source connected to the high side switch or when a low side switch in the DC-DC switching regulator is closed and the DC-DC switching regulator is providing current from a low voltage source connected to the low side switch;

    storing the indication of the capacitor current in a second latch when a bypass switch coupling ends of the output inductor and an output capacitor in the DC-DC switching regulator is closed and the DC-DC switching regulator is providing current from a capacitor in the DC-DC switching regulator;

    summing the capacitor current values stored in the first latch and the second latch using a summer to determine an indication of output inductor current for the DC-DC switching regulator.
