1. A surgical end effector for cutting and stapling tissue, wherein said surgical end effector comprises:

  • a first jaw;

    a second jaw, wherein said second jaw is movable relative to said first jaw between an unclamped position and a clamped position, and wherein the tissue is clamped between said first jaw and said second jaw when said second jaw is in said clamped position;

    a replaceable staple cartridge comprising a plurality of staples removably stored therein;

    a tissue thickness compensator placed on said second jaw, wherein said tissue thickness compensator is configured to adapt to variations in the thickness of the clamped tissue, and wherein said tissue thickness compensator comprises;

    three fibrous patterns, wherein said three fibrous patterns are oriented in three different directions; and

    a tissue contacting surface, wherein said tissue contacting surface comprises a textured surface configured to minimize movement of the tissue relative to said tissue thickness compensator when said second jaw is moved toward said clamped position;

    an I-beam configured to travel within said surgical end effector, wherein said I-beam comprises;

    a first camming member configured to engage said first jaw;

    a second camming member configured to engage said second jaw; and

    a cutting member configured to incise the clamped tissue;

    a first attachment member; and

    a second attachment member spaced apart from said first attachment member, wherein said first and second attachment members are configured to attach said tissue thickness compensator to said second jaw, and wherein said first and second attachment members are progressively released by said cutting member as said I-beam travels distally within said surgical end effector.
