Abstract

A method of controlling power in a wireless power receiver, the method including receiving an AC power via a reception coil, rectifying the AC power to a DC power and controlling the DC power applied to a load by comparing the DC power with a threshold voltage, wherein the controlling the DC power includes measuring a voltage of the DC power, allowing the load to enter a charging mode by transferring the DC power to the load when the measured voltage is equal to or greater than a first threshold voltage, maintaining the load in the charging mode when the measured voltage is equal to or greater than a second threshold voltage in a state of the charging mode, and blocking the DC power to the load when the measured voltage is less than the second threshold voltage.

Claims

1. A method of controlling power in a wireless power receiver, the method comprising:

receiving an AC power via a reception coil;

rectifying the AC power to a DC power; and

controlling the DC power applied to a load by comparing the DC power with a threshold voltage,

wherein the controlling the DC power includes;

measuring a voltage of the DC power,

allowing the load to enter a charging mode by transferring the DC power to the load when the measured voltage is equal to or greater than a first threshold voltage,

maintaining the load in the charging mode when the measured voltage is equal to or greater than a second threshold voltage in a state of the charging mode, and

blocking the DC power to the load when the measured voltage is less than the second threshold voltage.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first threshold voltage is greater than the second threshold voltage.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the allowing the load to enter the charging mode includes generating an enable signal to a DC-DC converter to connect the DC-DC converter to the load, and adjusting, via the DC-DC converter, the DC power to the load.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving AC power includes transmitting power from a wireless power transmitter to the wireless power receiver.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the blocking the DC power to the load includes generating a disable signal to the DC-DC converter to stop power transmission to the load.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the first threshold voltage is a minimum voltage required for the load to enter the charging mode, and the second threshold voltage is a minimum voltage required for the load to maintain the charging mode.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the rectifying the AC power to the DC power is performed by a rectifying unit, and

wherein the rectifying unit includes a rectifying circuit and a smoothing circuit.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the rectifying circuit includes at least one diode, and

wherein the smoothing circuit includes a capacitor and removes a ripple component from the output DC current to stabilize the DC current.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the rectifying unit is connected to a DC-DC converter, and

wherein the measuring the voltage of the DC power includes measuring the DC voltage applied from the rectifying unit to the DC-DC converter.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the allowing the load to enter a charging mode includes turning on the DC-DC converter to allow the transmission of power to the load, and

wherein the blocking the DC power to the load includes turning off the DC-DC converter.

11. A wireless power receiver comprising:

a reception coil configured to output an AC power;

a rectifier configured to rectify the AC power to a DC power;

a DC-DC converter configured to adjust the DC power and to transfer the adjusted DC power to a load; and

a controller configured to;

measure a voltage of the DC power,

allow the load to enter a charging mode by transferring the adjusted DC power to the load when the measured voltage is equal to or greater than a first threshold voltage,

maintain the load in the charging mode when the measured voltage is equal to or greater than a second threshold voltage in a state of the charging mode, and

block the adjusted DC power to the load when the measured voltage is less than the second threshold voltage.

12. The wireless power receiver according to claim 11, wherein the rectifier includes a rectifying circuit and a smoothing circuit.

13. The wireless power receiver according to claim 12, wherein the rectifier includes at least one diode, and

wherein the smoothing circuit includes a capacitor and is configured to remove a ripple component from an output DC current to stabilize the DC current.

14. The wireless power receiver according to claim 11, wherein the rectifier is connected to a DC-DC converter, and

wherein the controller is configured to measure the voltage of the DC power by measuring the DC voltage applied from the rectifier to the DC-DC converter.

15. The wireless power receiver according to claim 14, wherein the controller is configured to turn on the DC-DC converter to allow the transmission of power to the load, and to turn off the DC-DC converter to block the DC power to the load.

16. The wireless power receiver according to claim 11, wherein the first threshold voltage is greater than the second threshold voltage.

17. The wireless power receiver according to claim 11, wherein the controller is configured to allow the load to enter the charging mode by generating an enable signal to a DC-DC converter to connect the DC-DC converter to the load, and adjusting, via the DC-DC converter, the DC power to the load.

18. The wireless power receiver according to claim 11, wherein the controller is configured to block the adjusted DC power to the load by generating a disable signal to the DC-DC converter to stop power transmission to the load.

19. The wireless power receiver according to claim 11, wherein the reception coil is configured to receive an AC power from a wireless power transmitter.

20. The wireless power receiver according to claim 11, wherein the first threshold voltage is a minimum voltage required for the load to enter the charging mode, and the second threshold voltage is a minimum voltage required for the load to maintain the charging mode.
