1. A method for transferring data in a communication system, comprising:

  • receiving, by a network device, an incremental redundancy (IR) version of a frame, a sequence number, and a revision number in a media access control (MAC) layer;

    determining, by the network device in accordance with the received sequence number and the received revision number, whether the frame can be decoded and acknowledged;

    setting, by the network device, a state variable VS,R equal to 1−

    VS,R and a state variable VRV,R equal to −

    1 upon successfully decoding the frame, the state variable VS,R being a last sent acknowledgement sequence number and the state variable VRV,R being the received revision number; and

    sending, by the network device to another network device upon setting the state variable VS,R an acknowledgement sequence number (ASEQ) that is equal to VS,R.
