Abstract

An underwater projection system and a method for projecting images onto an underwater surface of a water feature are provided. The system includes an underwater projector in communication with a system controller. The system controller is configured to receive image content, manipulate the image content to generate a control output, and communicate the control output to the underwater projector. The underwater projector is configured to project an image onto the underwater surface based on the control output.

Claims

1. An underwater projection system for a water feature, the underwater projection system comprising:

an underwater projector configured to project an image onto an underwater surface of the water feature; and

a system controller in communication with the underwater projector and configured to receive image content, the system controller configured to manipulate the image content to generate a control output and communicate the control output to the underwater projector, the underwater projector configured to project the image based on the control output.

2. The underwater projection system of claim 1, wherein the system controller is configured to manipulate the image content based on at least one of physical boundaries of the water feature and distortion caused by projecting through water to generate the control output.

3. The underwater projection system of claim 1 and further comprising a user interface in communication with the system controller, the system controller configured to receive user input and the image content through the user interface.

4. The underwater projection system of claim 1 and further comprising an ambient light configured to illuminate the water feature, wherein the system controller is configured to independently control the underwater projector and the ambient light.

5. The underwater projection system of claim 1, wherein the system controller is configured to map a projection area in relation to the underwater surface.

The underwater projection system of claim 5, wherein the system controller is configured to control the underwater projector to project at least one boundary shape onto the underwater surface, move the at least one boundary shape to a new place on the underwater surface based on user input, set the at least one boundary shape in the new place based on the user input, and map the projection area based on the at least one set boundary shape.

7. The underwater projection system of claim 6 and further comprising a user interface including a touch display, and wherein the system controller is configured to move the at least one boundary shape in response to a user moving a displayed boundary shape on the touch display.

8. The underwater projection system of claim 5, wherein the system controller is configured to map the projection area based on input from an image capture device in communication with the system controller.

9. The underwater projection system of claim 5 and further comprising at least one sensor, wherein the system controller is configured to map the projection area based on input from the at least one sensor.

The underwater projection system of claim 1, wherein the system controller is configured execute an image correction routine by controlling the underwater projector to project an uncorrected image onto the underwater surface, determining a deformation of the uncorrected image based on user input, adjusting the control output based on the deformation, and communicating the adjusted control output to the underwater projector to project a corrected image onto the underwater surface.

11. The underwater projection system of claim 10, wherein the system controller is configured to manipulate the image content based on the deformation determined in the image correction routine.

12. The underwater projection system of claim 1, wherein the image content includes one of a stationary still image, a still image moving within a boundary area, a series of still images, and a video.

13. The underwater projection system of claim 1 and further comprising a second underwater projector configured to project another image onto the underwater surface of the water feature.

14. The underwater projection system of claim 3, wherein the user interface comprises a cellular phone.

15. The underwater projection system of claim 14, wherein the cellular phone includes an image capture device comprising a camera.

16. The underwater projection system of claim 3, wherein the user interface comprises a Wi-Fi enabled device including a touch screen display and an image capture device.

17. The underwater projection system of claim 16, wherein the Wi-Fi enabled device includes control software for utilizing a web addressable server.

18. The underwater projection system of claim 17, wherein the Wi-Fi enabled device communicates with the system controller via the web addressable server.

19. The underwater projection system of claim 16, wherein the system controller is located on the Wi-Fi enabled device.

20. The underwater projection system of claim 19 further including a projection system interface that communicates wirelessly with the system controller located on the Wi-Fi enabled device.
