1. A surface cleaning apparatus comprising:
- (a) hand vacuum cleaner having a front end having a dirty air inlet, a rear end, a clean air outlet, an upper end, a bottom and a handle, the hand vacuum cleaner comprising;
(i) a main body comprising the bottom, an upper end, a lower end, a front end and a rear end, the main body housing a suction motor and fan assembly, the suction motor and fan assembly having a suction motor axis of rotation; and
,(ii) a cyclone unit comprising a cyclone chamber having a cyclone axis of rotation, a front end having a front wall, a cyclone air inlet provided at the front end of the cyclone chamber and an axially spaced apart rear end having a rear wall and a cyclone air outlet provided in the rear wall;
(b) a surface cleaning head having a front end, a rear end, a dirt air inlet and a cleaning head air outlet; and
,(c) a rigid air flow conduit extending between the cleaning head air outlet and a hand vacuum cleaner air inlet, the rigid air flow conduit is removably mounted to the surface cleaning head,wherein the dirty air inlet of the hand vacuum cleaner is removably drivingly mounted to a downstream end of the rigid air flow conduit whereby when the hand vacuum cleaner is mounted to the downstream end of the rigid air flow conduit, the handle is a driving handle for the surface cleaning apparatus,and wherein when the hand vacuum cleaner is positioned with the bottom on a horizontal surface, the cyclone axis of rotation is generally horizontal.

(a) hand vacuum cleaner having a front end having a dirty air inlet, a rear end, a clean air outlet, an upper end, a bottom and a handle, the hand vacuum cleaner comprising; (i) a main body comprising the bottom, an upper end, a lower end, a front end and a rear end, the main body housing a suction motor and fan assembly, the suction motor and fan assembly having a suction motor axis of rotation; and
,(ii) a cyclone unit comprising a cyclone chamber having a cyclone axis of rotation, a front end having a front wall, a cyclone air inlet provided at the front end of the cyclone chamber and an axially spaced apart rear end having a rear wall and a cyclone air outlet provided in the rear wall; (b) a surface cleaning head having a front end, a rear end, a dirt air inlet and a cleaning head air outlet; and
,(c) a rigid air flow conduit extending between the cleaning head air outlet and a hand vacuum cleaner air inlet, the rigid air flow conduit is removably mounted to the surface cleaning head, wherein the dirty air inlet of the hand vacuum cleaner is removably drivingly mounted to a downstream end of the rigid air flow conduit whereby when the hand vacuum cleaner is mounted to the downstream end of the rigid air flow conduit, the handle is a driving handle for the surface cleaning apparatus, and wherein when the hand vacuum cleaner is positioned with the bottom on a horizontal surface, the cyclone axis of rotation is generally horizontal. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21)

18. A surface cleaning apparatus comprising:

(a) hand vacuum cleaner having a front end having a dirty air inlet, a rear end, a clean air outlet, an upper end, a bottom and a handle, the hand vacuum cleaner comprising; (i) a main body comprising the bottom, an upper end, a lower end, a front end and a rear end, the main body housing a suction motor and fan assembly, the suction motor and fan assembly having a suction motor axis of rotation; and
,(ii) a cyclone unit comprising a cyclone chamber having a cyclone axis of rotation, a front end having a cyclone air inlet and a longitudinally spaced apart rear end having a cyclone air outlet, whereby air enters at the front end of the cyclone chamber and exits at the rear end of the cyclone chamber; (b) a surface cleaning head having a front end, a rear end, a dirt air inlet and a cleaning head air outlet; and
,(c) a rigid air flow conduit extending between the cleaning head air outlet and a hand vacuum cleaner air inlet, the rigid air flow conduit is removably mounted to the surface cleaning head, wherein the dirty air inlet of the hand vacuum cleaner is removably drivingly mounted to a downstream end of the rigid air flow conduit whereby when the hand vacuum cleaner is mounted to the downstream end of the rigid air flow conduit, the handle is a driving handle for the surface cleaning apparatus, and wherein when the hand vacuum cleaner is positioned with the bottom on a horizontal surface, the cyclone axis of rotation is generally horizontal and wherein the suction motor and fan assembly is the sole suction motor and fan assembly of the surface cleaning apparatus.

19. A surface cleaning apparatus comprising:

(a) hand vacuum cleaner having a front end having a dirty air inlet, a rear end, a clean air outlet, an upper end, a bottom and a handle, wherein the dirty air inlet comprises an inlet passage that extends longitudinally between an inlet end and an outlet end and has a longitudinal passage axis, and the hand vacuum cleaner comprising; (i) a main body comprising the bottom, an upper end, a lower end, a front end and a rear end, the main body housing a suction motor and fan assembly, the suction motor and fan assembly having a suction motor axis of rotation; and
,(ii) a cyclone unit comprising a cyclone chamber having a cyclone axis of rotation that is coaxial with the longitudinal passage axis, a front end having a cyclone air inlet and a longitudinally spaced apart rear end having a cyclone air outlet; (b) a surface cleaning head having a front end, a rear end, a dirt air inlet and a cleaning head air outlet; and
,(c) a rigid air flow conduit extending between the cleaning head air outlet and a hand vacuum cleaner air inlet, the rigid air flow conduit is removably mounted to the surface cleaning head, wherein the dirty air inlet of the hand vacuum cleaner is removably drivingly mounted to a downstream end of the rigid air flow conduit whereby when the hand vacuum cleaner is mounted to the downstream end of the rigid air flow conduit, the handle is a driving handle for the surface cleaning apparatus, and wherein when the hand vacuum cleaner is positioned with the bottom on a horizontal surface, the cyclone axis of rotation is generally horizontal and wherein the cyclone air inlet is the sole portion of the hand vacuum cleaner that is connected to the rigid air flow conduit.
