1. A method for transmitting wireless power comprising:

  • identifying, by a radio-frequency power-wave transmitter that is configured to transmit radio-frequency power transmission waves that propagate through space, a first wireless power receiver coupled to a first electronic device within range of the transmitter;

    receiving, by the radio-frequency power-wave transmitter, via a communications component, a communication signal from the first wireless power receiver comprising a battery power level of the first electronic device and information identifying a location of the first wireless power receiver relative to the radio-frequency power-wave transmitter;

    receiving, by the radio-frequency power-wave transmitter from the first wireless power receiver, a request to charge the first electronic device upon the first power receiver determining the battery power level in the first electronic device is below a first predetermined threshold;

    transmitting, by a plurality of antennas of the radio-frequency power-wave transmitter, two or more power transmission waves converging to form controlled constructive interference patterns near the location of the first wireless power receiver;

    while transmitting the two or more power transmission waves that converge to form controlled constructive interference patterns near the location of the first wireless power receiver;

    receiving, by the radio-frequency power-wave transmitter, data indicating updated battery power levels of the first electronic device and an amount of power received by the first wireless power receiver from the two or more power transmission waves;

    calculating, by the radio-frequency power-wave transmitter, and using a measured clock value, a present rate of charge of the first electronic device based at least in part on the data indicating the updated battery power levels that are received while transmitting the two or more power transmission waves;

    determining whether the present rate of charge is not below a predetermined expected rate of charge for the first electronic device, and in accordance with the determination, continuing to transmit, by the plurality of antennas of the radio-frequency power-wave transmitter, the two or more power transmission waves that converge to form controlled constructive interference patterns near the location of the first wireless power receiver;

    wherein in accordance with a determination that the present rate of charge is below the predetermined expected rate of charge, transmitting an alert to the first electronic device, the alert indicating that the first electronic device is taking too long to charge;

    receiving, by the radio-frequency power-wave transmitter from the first power receiver, a request to stop charge of the first electronic device; and

    stopping transmission, by the radio-frequency power-wave transmitter, of the two or more power transmission waves from the plurality of antennas.
