Abstract

Methods and apparatuses for determining an analyte value are disclosed.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving a reference data point at a time;

retrieving analyte data for the time based on signals from an analyte sensor configured to monitor a level of an analyte;

determining, for the time, a rate of change of the monitored analyte level;

performing a lag correction of the retrieved analyte data by at least applying the determined rate of change to a time constant;

determining a calibration parameter associated with the analyte sensor based on the reference data and the lag corrected retrieved analyte data; and

calibrating the lag corrected retrieved analyte data using the calibration parameter.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the analyte is one of lactate or glucose.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the time constant is in a range of approximately four to fifteen minutes.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the time constant is a fixed predetermined time constant.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising varying the fixed predetermined time constant based on an action by a patient.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising an analyte-responsive enzyme bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the analyte-responsive enzyme is chemically bonded to the polymer.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the working electrode further comprises a mediator.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising a mediator bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the mediator is chemically bonded to the polymer.

11. An apparatus, comprising:

one or more processors; and

a memory storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to;

receive a reference data at a time;

retrieve analyte data for the time based on signals from an analyte sensor configured to measure a level of an analyte;

determine, for the time, a rate of change of the measured analyte level;

perform lag correction of the retrieved analyte data by at least applying the determined rate of change to a time constant;

determine a calibration parameter associated with the analyte sensor based on the reference data and the lag corrected retrieved analyte data; and

calibrate the lag corrected retrieved analyte data using the calibration parameter.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the analyte is one of lactate or glucose.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the time constant is in a range of approximately four to fifteen minutes.

14. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the time constant is a fixed predetermined time constant.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, further storing instructions to vary the fixed predetermined time constant based on an action by a patient.

16. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising an analyte-responsive enzyme bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the analyte-responsive enzyme is chemically bonded to the polymer.

18. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the working electrode further comprises a mediator.

19. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising a mediator bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the mediator is chemically bonded to the polymer.
