1. A dermatologic treatment apparatus, comprising:

  • a pulsed laser light source that emits coherent, divergent light;

    an output end configured to be placed against the skin; and

    an optical system including an optical diffuser arranged to receive the coherent light from the pulsed laser light source and diffuse the coherent light to provide a series of diffuse light pulses;

    wherein the optical system is configured to emit the diffuse light pulses from the output end of the apparatus at a fluence of 4-100 J/cm2 for delivery to the skin to effect a hair removal or hair-regrowth-inhibiting dermatological treatment; and

    wherein the diffuse light pulses emitted from the output end of the apparatus have a pulse duration t of less than 10 seconds, and an integrated radiance in Jcm
