Power metering and control system adaptable to multi-standard device
First Claim
1. An apparatus for optimizing charging of a smart load, the smart load being capable of receiving power at least at a first power-reception level and a second power-reception level, the second power-reception level being greater than the first power-reception level, the apparatus comprising:
- a solar panel;
a controller operably coupled to the solar panel;
the controller configured to periodically monitor an amount of power received by the smart load when the smart load is in electronic communication with the solar panel;
a display configured to provide a visual representation of said amount of power; and
an interrupting device in communication with the controller;
wherein;
said controller determines an actual power-reception level at which said smart load is being powered;
said controller causes said interrupting device to interrupt power flow to said smart load for an interruption period when said actual power-reception level is equal to said first power-reception level;
said smart load receives no power for said interruption period and resets as a result of said interruption to receive power at said second power reception level; and
said interruption period is in a range of 0.5 to 5 seconds.

Abstract
Apparatus for powering a smart load capable of receiving power at a first power-reception level and a second power-reception level greater than the first power-reception level includes a solar panel and a connector operably coupled to the solar panel. A monitoring device is configured to monitor a power-reception level of the smart load when the smart load is coupled to the connector. The apparatus includes an interrupting device configured to interrupt power flow to the smart load based on a determination that the smart load is receiving power at the first power-reception level. The smart load receives power at the second power-reception level in response to the interruption.

-
a solar panel; a controller operably coupled to said solar panel;
said controller configured to monitor a charging characteristic of said smart load when said smart load is electronically coupled to said solar panel;an interrupting device in communication with said controller; wherein; said controller is configured to cause said interrupting device to interrupt power flow to said smart load for an interruption period based on an evaluation of said charging characteristic of said smart load; said smart load receives no power for said interruption period and resets as a result of said interruption to receive a new power reception level that is greater than an original power reception level; and said interruption period is in a range of 0.5 seconds to 5 seconds. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14)
