Abstract

Firearm accessories and associated methods. A firearm accessory includes a mount for mounting the firearm accessory on a firearm. The mount can be adjustable to customize the mounting of the firearm accessory on the firearm. Electronic firearm accessories can include a longitudinally extending circuit structure having one or more electronic switches thereon facing laterally. A switch assembly can include a push member and a finger extending therefrom for actuating an associated electronic switch. Battery compartment features are also disclosed.

Claims

1. A firearm accessory for mounting on a firearm, the firearm including an accessory rail having opposite sides extending along a length of the accessory rail and having a recess between the opposite sides, the firearm accessory comprising:

an accessory body having a firearm axis along which the length of the accessory rail extends when the firearm accessory is mounted on the firearm; and

a firearm rail mount connected to the accessory body, the firearm rail mount including a first rail engagement arm and a second rail engagement arm, the first and second rail engagement arms being spaced from each other to define a gap for receiving the rail therein, the first and second rail engagement arms being shaped and arranged to engage the opposite sides of the accessory rail when the accessory rail is received in the gap for mounting the firearm accessory on the firearm, the firearm rail mount including a retainer secured to the accessory body, the retainer including recess engagement structure sized and shaped to interface with the recess of the accessory rail to prevent forward movement of the firearm accessory along the length of the accessory rail, the retainer including an elongate slot extending along the firearm axis, the retainer being movable with respect to the accessory body to change a position of the retainer with respect to the accessory body along the firearm axis;

a first fastener received in the elongate slot, the first fastener having a fastened position in which the first fastener releasably secures the retainer in position with respect to the accessory body and having an unfastened position in which the first fastener permits the retainer to move along the firearm axis with respect to both the accessory body and the first fastener while the first fastener is in the elongate slot.

The firearm accessory of claim 1, wherein the retainer is releasably fixable in a first position along the firearm axis with respect to the accessory body and releasably fixable in a second position along the firearm axis with respect to accessory body different than the first position, and the retainer is slidably on the accessory body between the first and second positions.

3. The firearm accessory of claim 1, wherein the first fastener comprises a threaded shaft received in a threaded opening in the accessory body, the first fastener being movable between the fastened and unfastened positions by rotating the threaded shaft in the threaded opening.

4. The firearm accessory of claim 1, wherein the fastener includes an upstanding shaft extending through the elongated slot and connecting the fastener to the accessory body.

5. The firearm accessory of claim 1, wherein the recess engagement structure comprises a first protrusion and a second protrusion, the first and second protrusions being located on opposite sides of the elongate slot.

The firearm accessory of claim 1, further comprising a second fastener received in the elongate slot, the second fastener having a fastened position in which the second fastener releasably secures the retainer in position with respect to the accessory body and having an unfastened position in which the second fastener permits the retainer to move with respect to the accessory body along the firearm axis.

The firearm accessory of claim 1, wherein the first fastener includes a threaded shaft and a head wider than the threaded shaft, the head of the first fastener pressing the retainer toward the accessory body in the fastened position to releasably secure the retainer in position with respect to the accessory body.

The firearm accessory of claim 7, wherein the retainer includes a base having an upper surface from which the recess engagement structure protrudes, the base including the elongate slot, the elongate slot being configured to receive the head of the fastener such that the head of the fastener is flush with or below the upper surface.

The firearm accessory of claim 1, further comprising a second fastener having a fastened position in which the second fastener releasably secures the retainer in position with respect to the accessory body and having an unfastened position in which the second fastener permits the retainer to move with respect to the accessory body along the firearm axis.

10. The firearm accessory of claim 9, wherein the second fastener is spaced from the first fastener along the firearm axis.

The firearm accessory of claim 9, wherein the retainer includes a base having an upper surface from which the recess engagement structure protrudes, the first and second fasteners each having a threaded shaft and a head wider than the threaded shaft, the slot being located in the base and configured to receive the head of at least one of the first and second fasteners such that the head is flush with or below the upper surface.

12. The firearm accessory of claim 9, wherein the recess engagement structure comprises a first protrusion and a second protrusion, the first and second protrusions being located on opposite sides of the elongate slot.

The firearm accessory of claim 1, wherein the retainer has a forward end, a rearward end, and a length extending therebetween along the firearm axis, the recess engagement structure being located a first distance from the front end and a second distance from the rear end different than the first distance.

The firearm accessory of claim 1, wherein the first and second rail engagement arms are configured to clamp the rail, the firearm accessory comprising a first fastener securing the retainer to the accessory body and including a second fastener configured for moving at least one of the first and second rail engagement arms to clamp the rail.

The firearm accessory of claim 1, wherein the retainer is movable among at least first and second positions with respect to the accessory body, and the retainer includes blocking structure constructed to prevent rearward movement of the retainer with respect to the accessory body when the retainer is releasably secured in the first position and when the retainer is releasably secured in the second position.

16. The firearm accessory of claim 15, wherein the blocking structure is configured to engage the first fastener to prevent rearward movement of the retainer with respect to the accessory body.

17. The firearm accessory of claim 16, wherein the first fastener includes a shaft and a head wider than the shaft, and the blocking structure is arranged to engage the head of the first fastener to prevent rearward movement of the retainer with respect to the accessory body.

18. The firearm accessory of claim 1, wherein the slot opens out of upper and lower surfaces of the retainer.

19. The firearm accessory of claim 1, wherein the first fastener passes through the retainer in the fastened position of the first fastener.

20. The firearm accessory of claim 1, wherein the first fastener is in threaded engagement with the accessory body in the unfastened position of the first fastener.

21. A firearm accessory for mounting on a firearm, the firearm including an accessory rail having opposite sides extending along a length of the accessory rail and having a recess between the opposite sides, the firearm accessory comprising:

an accessory body having a firearm axis along which the length of the accessory rail extends when the firearm accessory is mounted on the firearm; and

a firearm rail mount connected to the accessory body, the firearm rail mount including a first rail engagement arm and a second rail engagement arm, the first and second rail engagement arms being spaced from each other to define a gap for receiving the rail therein, the first and second rail engagement arms being shaped and arranged to engage the opposite sides of the accessory rail when the accessory rail is received in the gap for mounting the firearm accessory on the firearm;

the firearm rail mount including a retainer including a base and recess engagement structure on the base, the recess engagement structure being sized and shaped to interface with the recess of the accessory rail to prevent forward movement of the firearm accessory along the length of the accessory rail, the base having a length extending along the firearm axis, the recess engagement structure being connected to the base in a dedicated position along the length of the base, the retainer being configured to prevent connection of the retainer engagement structure to the base in a different position along the length of the base than said dedicated position;

the retainer being in a first position with respect to the accessory body along the firearm axis, the retainer being movable with respect to the accessory body from the first position to at least a second position with respect to the accessory body along the firearm axis, the base defining a first fastener receiving location corresponding to the first position of the retainer with respect to the accessory body and defining a second fastener receiving location corresponding to the second position of the retainer with respect to the accessory body;

a fastener received in the first fastener receiving location and extending into the accessory body to releasably secure the retainer in the first position to the accessory body, the fastener being selectively movable from the first fastener receiving location to the second fastener receiving location to releasably secure the retainer to the accessory body when the retainer is in the second position with respect to the accessory body along the firearm axis.

22. The firearm accessory of claim 21, wherein the retainer includes an elongate slot extending along the firearm axis, the fastener being received in the elongate slot to releasably secure the retainer to the accessory body.

The firearm accessory of claim 21, wherein the fastener includes a threaded shaft, and the threaded shaft is threaded in a threaded opening of the accessory body when the fastener is received in the first fastener receiving location to releasably secure the retainer in the first position to the accessory body, and wherein the threaded shaft is threaded in the threaded opening of the accessory body when the fastener is received in the second fastener receiving location to releasably secure the retainer in the second position to the accessory body.

24. The firearm accessory of claim 21, wherein the recess engagement structure is permanently connected to the base in the dedicated position along the length of the base.
